Need to rotate v2 camera 90 degrees

Is there a way to rotate the v2 90 degrees instead of 180 degrees? I have the v2 sideways but I am trying to view it and I cant get it to view straight, 180 degrees it too much.

there is not. currently they only have it in 2 perspectives because of the picture measurement.

here is the Wishlist item if you would like to vote for that feature.

I laid my cameras on their sides to get stereo view. got the idea from

90 degrees would be nice, I have it mounted on the side of wall pointing down a stairway. from what I can tell, person detection does not work at this angle. suppose will need to use some type of adhesive on the side of the camera

Velcro work s wonders. I use it until I’m sure I have everything where I want it, then go with a more permanent mount.

nice, good idea, will try that

Wow, its been 6 years and they still have not addressed this with the V4.

Did they ever say they would?

You can’t rotate the picture 90 degrees, as it is a rectangle, not a square. You can invert it since it is the same shape, but not rotate it.

I was gonna make a post on why they haven’t rotated at 90 degrees but it appears that Did all the footwork for me . One of the hardest problems they have is with the coding with getting the rectangular frame to fit within the same footprint if it were to be rotated 90 degrees. This is something that a lot of the Mavens brought up long before the Maven team was a thing and now that we have been in our positions a while we have spoken to many people about this and it continues to be a similar obstacle. For as many people that would utilize this, it is not necessarily worth the Investment needed to make it work let alone make it work within the different footprints the app works within. The utilization rate is vast.

Even if they did code it, I have to assume it would have a significant impact on image quality, it would no longer be able to be 1080P (or 2.5K, etc) since it is now using the narrower portion of the image sensor for the wide part of the image. I’m sure people would not be happy with that either.

A much simpler and more elegant solution would be addressing the need physically, either with a base that somehow allows 90 degree rotation or a second mounting hole on the side (covered with something when not used). But again how many people are going to use that feature?

You hit it spot on. I would attempt to add to this but you have hit every point I would have. If anyone replies to this I will merely reference your post as the correct answer as to why it has more than likely not been implemented. And I say that as someone who has not talked directly to someone to this exact feature, but in other features understanding where and why resources are spent, this is exactly why.

If I had to guess without looking, I’d suspect there are bases with standard 4mm threaded connectors on Amazon that are right angle.

I know when helping my neighbors set up their Blink system (which they now want to replace with Wyze after seeing stuff from mine) there was an aftermarket base that allowed full movement in all directions. Perhaps Wyze will add some more flexibility to the v5 base, but if not, the ones I got them were cheap and worked fine.

EDIT to clarify, I believe the OGs are 4mm and the rest are 6mm. There are adapters available to go from 4->6 and 6->4 but should be able to find mounts in either size.

What if the camera was made so the lens could be rotated.
It wouldn’t matter to what angle the mount sat, the lens itself could be rotated to keep the image level.

It would need to rotate the lens and the image assembly inside which is soldered to the circuit board. Would probably also be very difficult to maintain the water resistance rating in that case. Far easier to rotate the entire cam using a mount.

I assume you are trying to attach your v4 to a vertical surface.

Are you able to mount an L-bracket and then have your v4 sit on the bracket “right side up”?
