Reddit AMA w/Product Managers - 2pm PT 10/25/2024

I put a copy of all the answered questions up in post 2 for anyone who wants a summary of what they answered:

Update: Employee Answers above should now be highlighted in green like this.

It’s good you submitted a loads of questions.

Sad that some went unanswered or had “This is outside of the scope of our team here today”.

Thanks for your efforts.

I actually expected that some questions wouldn’t get answered for being unrelated to the guest employees’ purview.

It is hard for someone to answer questions that aren’t part of their purview, but Jason still made a lot of effort to go ask other teams to give him an answer for most of the highest upvoted questions anyway, which is why I still asked the unrelated questions because if they get upvoted enough, then Jason has leverage to ask to get answers for them anyway.

Plus they have a limited amount of time to give answers, so they give priority to the on topic questions and then to the highest voted off-topic questions. So I make sure to ask them all anyway and let the community decide which are most important overall for Wyze to answer.

We’ll get more chances. Sometimes they have even let us make requests for which Wyze team members we’d like to ask questions to, but they do like to change it up. I don’t think they’re doing too bad of a job of rotating who does an AMA and what the subject matter is. We even get the founders and the VP of Product do them sometimes and then ALL QUESTIONS are on the table depending on what gets voted on the most. We’ve also had the App and Firmware teams answers questions. It just depends on what team members are the guests, but we can still try to ask unrelated questions and lots of those were still answered.

We’ll just try again next time they do one. This is why voting is so important.

Thanks.

Haha, sometimes it feels like a public interview between me and Wyze when I ask most of the questions that people actually end up voting on.

22 of the 27 answered questions were from me, and of the 5 not from me, half were also duplicate or similar questions/answers that I had asked before them --but you can’t blame someone for not reading through ALL the existing questions when I seemingly spammed the AMA thread with 48 questions…though, maybe spammed is the wrong word because I think most of my questions were actually pretty high quality and some tough questions (but I am probably biased).

I’ll start making a new list of questions to ask in the next AMA now as I read what community members are most interested in. That’s part of the reason they don’t mind answering so many questions from me, because 1) they’re the questions other people end up upvoting that they want answered, and 2) I’m often asking on behalf of the community in general, and not always for myself.
