I just setup my new Outdoor Cam and noticed there’s options to set a event recording cooldown period of 1, 3 or 5 minutes. I wish this was an option for the Wyze Cam v2 even with Cam Plus, because without the option Notifications and Event Recordings are excessive during periods of the same person/people passing in front of the camera repeatedly. Examples include the garage camera during times of making several trips to bring in the groceries, or the landscapers mowing the lawn and triggering the cameras each time they go back-and-forth.
[Mod Edit]:Title and tags modified to be more inclusive and to enhance search clarity.
[Mod Note]:This wishlist request is not limited to Cam v2. This wishlist request seeks to add recording cooldown options (currently available for battery-powered cams) to Wyze USB-powered cam models.
Creating a cooldown period for event recording with options for 1/3 or 5 mins would be very helpful. We had the feature on the Outdoor cams but the v3 cams record events continuously clogging up the daily log and there are circumstances due to our equine student program and pet monitoring needs where we cant limit the camera to only pets but don’t want to continuously record all movement by people either. We also want to capture dog and cats in the house but not ourselves however we do need to monitor for other people in the house so again, we can’t just set the camera to capture pets. Our ideal would be for the house cameras to have a setting for cool down periods after the initial movement is captured similar to the outdoor cams.
I’d like to see a recording time limit with cool down period for the wired cams like there is on the Battery Pan Cam. Have a few v3 cams that I would like to see a cooldown or ‘timeout’ period added for in software. I have a cam in our horse barn to check for activity, when we’re out there we get almost non stop notifications. I’d like to see maybe a 1, 3, 5 minute dead zone between recordings or notifications.
The Use Case:** I am part of a growing community of RV and travel trailer owners who use Wyze cameras for “away-from-rig” security. Because we travel, our cameras often run on metered cellular hotspots or satellite connections (like Starlink) where data is a precious resource.
The Pain Point: I have stayed on the Cam Plus Lite plan solely for this reason. Currently, if we want the advanced AI features of Cam Plus or Cam Unlimited (like Person or Vehicle detection), we are forced into “Full Motion” cloud recording. In a busy campground, a single camera can easily consume 10GB+ of data per month.
Many of us are forced to stick with the legacy Cam Plus Lite specifically because the 12-second limit and 5-minute cooldown are the only ways to prevent our cameras from blowing through our monthly data caps. We want to pay for the higher tiers for the AI accuracy, but the “unlimited” data usage makes it impossible.
Proposed Solution: Please add a “Data Saver” toggle or Manual Recording Limits and User-Configurable Cooldown Periods for plug-in cameras (v3, v4, Pan, etc.), similar to the settings already available for battery-powered cameras.
Clip Length Limit: Allow users to cap cloud recordings at 15s, 30s, or 60s.
Adjustable Cooldown: Allow a user-defined delay between cloud uploads (e.g., 1 min, 3 min, 5 min).
Why this helps Wyze:
Increased Subscriptions: There is a large segment of the “Mobile Lifestyle” and “Off-grid” market that would subscribe to Cam Unlimited today if they could control the bandwidth. I am one and I have 3 friends in my local Airstream club who are all potential customers.
Server Cost Savings: Giving users the option to upload less data to your AWS servers is a win-win for both the customer’s data plan and Wyze’s storage overhead.
Market Leadership: Wyze is already the go-to for DIY RV security. Formalizing a “Mobile/Low-Data Mode” would solidify that position.
