Power ON/off on icons

Thanks for your post. I have similar issues.
I like the feature but it is absolutely too easy to accidentally turn cameras on and off from favorites. Also, there is very little color contrast between those two settings so I don’t easily notice when changed. Additional issue, when you select a group and see all the cameras, the power symbol indicating the camera is off sometimes disappears which is confusing. One thing for sure, there is not one method of using the Wyze app. Overall, I appreciate the new app and only want to share my “buggy” issues. Thanks

@Deeje Agree that option is best solution.

However I’m curious as to what your use case is to frequently turn cameras on/off.

I will turn my front yard/front street camera Off when mowing my lawn. I like to keep an eye on my front area and don’t need it to record me mowing.

I do wish the On and Off color of the button was more distinct, but can live with it the way it is.

My opinion is based on me still using App version 2.50 which might be different than App 3.xx.

When I am home alone and working in the backyard, I turn off that camera, but leave on the other cameras, so as not to be “surprised” by someone walking up. When I’m inside, and husband is mowing, turn off outside cameras so they aren’t alerting constantly.
When I’m home, inside cameras are off. When I leave, I turn on inside cameras.
Retired…so schedule varies greatly day to day, the “rules” feature are not helpful to me most of the time.
I love being able to quickly turn individual cameras on/off.
I can see both sides of the issue. Seems like making the color difference of on/off button more distinct would definitely help, along with requiring a longer press on it might help with accidentally turning it off. Maybe an option to have the button quickly available.

I like suggested options, Deeje.

The biggest takeaway question here seems whether Wyze really thinks this is a settled issue.

Communications is almost always paramount & seems everyone would appreciate an explanation from Wyze as to why it may not be technically possible to make it an “option” - which seems like the best solution.

Many times dev houses are amicable to an idea, but just can’t make it a priority. However, I would argue that if something bad happens to someone and the only evidence would have been the camera footage, but it’s not captured because it was “accidentally” turned OFF, that’s a very regrettable situation that could have been easily avoided. In those scenarios the cams are completely useless.

Anyway, we can only hope that @WyzeVeronica or someone inside will hear the request.

I probably wouldn’t have tagged a marketing person for a response to this issue, but I do have this issue in my notes to comment on another recent topic related to the future off the app. I’m still letting those thoughts percolate a bit and haven’t yet gotten to writing a post there.

You bring up a good point. And I don’t know how often our customers use the On/Off buttons for this to be designed the way that it is. I’ll shoot this thread over to some of our app leads so it is on their radar.

Hey hey… I’m in marketing and have at least 10 skill points in “how to be annoying.” Let me see if I can get some conversations going.

That’s what I’m saying (that you’re in marketing, not that you’re annoying), so I wouldn’t expect someone in your position to be responsible for directly addressing this issue. Nevertheless, I genuinely appreciate your willingness to jump in and tag other responsible parties! :+1:

Is that one of the core credits for marketing education?

If so, then I hope Agnes teaches it.

In comparing the app on my iPhone vs on my iPad, I noticed that the power button is completely set off to the right on the iPad, vs sitting on the image on the iPhone.
Maybe they could move the power button to sit below the image (between the camera name and “Live”). Just a thought…
I do hope they can come up with a solution that suits everyone’s situation.

I second the “press-and-hold option” for camera power.
Seems like it would meet everyone’s needs.

Not sure I agree with you there @joeman. You might be surprised how unsteady some folks fingers are and you can end up in the same situation of whole groups of cameras inadvertently being off. The sure way is to make it an option to show up or not and those who know their application can use it.

I’ll cop to bring stupid, but once you’re viewing a camera live, there no longer seems to be a stop button. There’s only that blasted on/off button. So guess what my family members keep doing?!

Really, I’m sure there was a STOP button before to end living viewing…

Interesting. I just click out of the cam by selecting another or hitting the < icon. Never noticed.

I believe you are correct…it turns off the “camera” functions but not the WiFi. Otherwise you couldn’t turn it back on!

I have my cameras aimed at my storage and workshop buildings and turn them off during the day when I go out there often.

I find the on/off function very useful

Do you actually do that manually? Why not just set a rule that does it automatically?
