Plug status glitch

So, this little ‘glitch’ has been occurring to my plug for years, and I’ve just never bothered to seek help in the forums until today. Maybe someone will have a suggestion on how to resolve the annoyance. Here’s what happens every night when I try to set up a timer on the plug:

  1. On the Wyze app home tab, the plug shows to be “On”, and the plug itself is turned on, which is good.

  2. But when I select the plug, the status shows “On” for a second, and then changes the displayed status to “Off” (even though the plug itself remains on the entire time.)

  3. So, I have to go back to the home tab, and select the plug device again, and this time the status correctly shows “On”. So, I can now set my Off-timer.

I have to do this every single day, like I’m practicing Déjà vu. The first view of the plug status on the plug page is always wrong, but after the second view, it’s always correct, until the next night. The plug is also set on a schedule to turn on and off once each day, so it’s as if the automated schedule confuses the app about the true and actual status of the plug.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix it?

App v3.4.5 (650)
Plug firmware 1.2.0.80 (up to date)

I’m using the same Plug model (originals from 2019 with the same firmware version) and have never experienced this type of behavior, even when I’ve tried—I think—to replicate this, though using app v3.5.5.669 (Android). I say “I think” because I tried to follow your steps as I understand them, but I also think I don’t really understand what you’re doing or what your experience is, because of things like this:

The first statement indicates that the first view of the Plug’s status is correct, but then later you say that it’s not.

I’m also not sure which tab you’re working from on the Home screen: Favorites or Devices? I wonder if they’re both reporting the same state for the Plug when you view it at various times during this process. :man_shrugging:

When I’m trying to replicate this the Plug that I’m looking at is showing the expected on/off state in the app. I should note that this particular Plug does turn on and off on a schedule, but I’m running the schedule through Google Home and not via a Wyze app Schedule Automation. I wouldn’t expect that to make a difference in the state that the Wyze app is reporting to you, though.

Without knowing more, I’d consider trying two or three things (in order of increasing annoyance):

  1. Recreate the Schedule Automation. I’d probably just toggle off the Enable option for that particular Schedule to start and then create another one just like it and let it run to see what happens. You could also just delete the current one and create a new one.
  2. Clear out your old app data to grab a fresh copy of your user profile and settings from Wyze’s servers.
  3. Consider uninstalling and reinstalling the Wyze app if a profile refresh doesn’t work.
This is how I would get a clean copy of my account profile/settings on Android (click/tap to expand):
  1. Clear the in-app cache: From the Wyze app’s home screen, navigate to Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Cache File Size ➜ Clear.
  2. Navigate back one screen to Account and tap Log Out at the bottom.
  3. Swipe the Wyze app out of the running Android apps.
  4. Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (on the phone’s home screen or wherever you tap to initially open the app) and then tap App info in the pop-up menu.
  5. Tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm) and then tap Storage & cache.
  6. Tap Clear cache and Clear storage on the Storage screen.
  7. Back up one screen (back to App info) and then tap Open and proceed to log back into your Wyze account/app. (Optionally reboot the phone at this step for good measure and then launch the Wyze app after the fresh boot instead of relaunching it immediately from this screen.)

Note: I don’t know what the options would be for modifying these steps on iOS since I don’t use that platform.

I’m also wondering if you’ve been using the same phone (or other mobile device) all this time or if you’re seeing this on multiple mobile devices. If you’re seeing this on multiple phones/tablets, then I’m more inclined to think that something might be glitched with the Automation. If what you’re describing is all an experience on a single phone, then I wonder if something is corrupt on the phone itself, in which case refreshing your profile or doing a fresh install of the app[1] might help.

Like I said, though, I haven’t seen this or been able to reproduce it, so I’m really just guessing. This is a puzzler!

  1. When I do this, I tend to uninstall the app, reboot the phone, install the app, reboot the phone again, then launch the app and sign in. ↩︎

Thanks for your reply! On rereading my post, I can see how it can be confusing. I tried editing a few words to help improve the clarity.

First view (first time I open the Plug device): correct status for an instant, followed by wrong status.
Second view (second time I open the Plug device): correct status, until the next day.

The Favorites tab is good. The Devices tab is good. The issue I’m describing is from the specific device page, where you have to go to set a timer.

I also found this other post complaining about the same issue back in 2021:

When I get some time, I will try out some of the suggestions you mentioned and report back.

Thanks,
Johnny
