Person Detection Update: A New Experiment for Premium Features

Wyze team
As many of us purchased your products for its unique approach and price point. Understand you have cost for cloud services. Give us the option of storing the recording on network drive vs local sd card with free detection. This way you do not have to incur cost nor we as customers. Local SD card storage reliability is poor. If anyone who do not want to deal with network drive etc and want to leverage your cloud services, you can provide them subscription services. Majority of us like your product, want to buy more if you give us options, not just one option of paid cloud service. You want to disrupt the market, then should not compare with Ring or Nest etc.

I bought one v2 to find out if I want Wyze ecosystem. I can see when my V2 died in a year or two, the name your price offer will be withdrawn as well.

I believe the detection itself costs them money, not the amount of clips captured (of course that costs money too but we are already using it)

My guess is that they are using kinesis, sqs, and lambdas to do the person detection which aws will charge them based on usage

So you are telling me the camera I just bought to see if my 91 year old mother is okay in her house is now just a doorstop unless I pay you month? Shouldn’t you be including this in your product details BEFORE you sell it to people. Totally shoddy and unethical, if not illegal.

Welcome to the forum.

No, that is not what they are saying at all.
You can watch your Mom and record events just as before without buy any subscriptions. If you just bought the camera, as you said, then you didn’t have Person Detection anyway.

Can subscription transfer to new csm if existing one fail?

@ paulyason @ivisoria @cf7 A single PD subscription covers all your supported V2 or Pan cameras. (V1 and Outdoor cameras appear not to be supported). That means it covers you current cameras as well as any cameras you’ll add in the future. Woo!

Yes. The sub isn’t associated with cameras just your account.

Only camV2 and pan cams. Not camV1 or outdoor cams

Email from Wyze: “We promised all of you in an email at the end of November 2019 that person detection would remain free to all of you when we released our version.”

Which is why I continued to purchase Wyze cameras even though they were becoming more costly. Now my outdoor cams will not be covered by this promise.

You made the good guy pinky promise without stipulations then added stipulations. If you want to add stipulations then make it ONE free camera with person detection and we pay for any additional we want it on.

For the pricing (it covers all my cams) I’m content with this option. Will be paying from Oct. thanks for the options, pennies a day.

I don’t like monthly subscriptions. How about a one time fee?

@Mods / @WyzeGwendolyn , perhaps this is a good time to split this thread again, now that the feature (experiment) is being implemented? We’re well over 1,000 posts in…

Just a thought.

Hey Ken, point me to where it indicates unlimited cameras

I will look for a place where it actually says it, but I do know on the ‘pay what you want’ plan is per account for supported devices which are currently the V2 and Pan

I noticed they now have an annual plan for Cam Plus $14.95 I think, so it could be done if they wanted to. I also hate monthly subscriptions.

kinda hard to miss…

For those that are looking for a one-time fee or an annual option for Legacy PD there is a Wishlist topic for it, you can vote at the link below.

Yes, WYZE could implement an annual fee but they don’t know yet if enough people are going to support it. So, if they don’t rake in enough money to support stand alone PD they will either have to kill it off or set it up as subscription only. If that happens and hundreds of people have paid an annual fee how are they going to deal with that?

I wonder if they will be adding it to Outdoor cam though. Because right now in the pilot/beta program, I have person detection on my Outdoor cam so I would think that means they would be adding it to this program soon as well. I know for sure they are adding Cam Plus to the Outdoor cam soon.
