Do I also need to occasionally charge the backup battery, or does that get charged from the main battery? If I need to charge the backup battery, how do I correctly pull out the backup battery?

Excellent, thank you. From that article –> “Once the main battery is reinstalled, it will automatically re-charge the backup battery.”

To answer the second part of your question (because the Backup Battery is charged by the Main Battery), I’ve found that a segment of paperclip with just a small bit of “J” hook to it fits nicely into the notch at the top of the Backup Battery compartment and can hook behind the top of the Backup Battery’s lip to allow you to easily pull it out. I’ve done this on a few occasions when I’ve wanted to hard reboot the Palm Lock while troubleshooting some connectivity issues, and this was the only way I could think of to completely kill power to the device.
