Paying for a feature is a slippery slope and something I would like to avoid. paying for a shorter cool down seems like a bad idea. Why not make it an option in the app, An option of either 14 days free storage with a 5 min cool down OR x amount of free storage space with programmable cool downs. Then they could add the option to upgrade space for a monthly subscription. This would allow them to make money while bringing the newest feature to long time supporters who chose Wyze solely for the lack of money subscriptions.
thats not an issue if you are using an SD card…
Understood, but since it’s an outside camera, I’d have no access if it’s stolen, damaged or the cord is cut. Mounted on my garage to watch my driveway. We have neighborhood kids vandalizing cars. If anything happens, I want the data in the cloud, not local in the device. And hey, I’m even willing to pay for that
I can understand. but because of the pricing structure of the cloud services used, the cost isn’t linear and thus not currently an option for Wyze. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for this one anytime soon
Another good option would be integrated RTSP, in the main firmware build and the ability to stream to a NVR or NAS. I know they are currently running in separate tracks, but if they ever merge, or make the RTSP build with OTA updates, that would solve the problem too. I’ve played with the RTSP beta and it looks promising, but installing updates via SD card every time isn’t practical for an outdoor mounted camera. So I’m staying with the main firmware build for now to keep up with added features.
Note that the tag on this topic is “in-development” indicating that it is coming. Timing is unknown, however.
In case you didn’t see it, Wyze was working on their own NAS solution. Unfortunately, the hardware partnership for it fell through, the the project was put on hold. Hopefully it will be revived at some point.
Thanks for the update!
Hello, I would like to see the recording time to be expanded. When I purchased I didn’t notice that I would only capture the first 12 seconds of an event.
Is there a way to record the entire event either with back to back videos or expand the allowed length?
Thank you!
With a SD card you can record 24/7.
What I tend to do is “record to the cloud” my 12 second event while recording continuous.
Then I look up the “event” go to my continuous recording and record that while viewing.
It isn’t the best approach but works well considering the cost of the cameras.
Hello,
I assume like everybody else that 5 min CD is due to cloud storage size (not performance).
The calc below allows us to have 12.9 hours of continuous storage space.
I’d like to suggest a setting number for
- the camera owner to declare his/ers retention period
- or 2-3 CD options (eg. 5, 3, 1, 0)
I hope my calcs are correct
Sincerely,
Eran

With all due respect, I do not understand the issues of cloud storage and the impact on networking, storage, security and ultimately cost. If every other big player on the market offers a premium storage option, why is it only a problem for Wyze?
I disagree: freemium is a very common business model and in fact many other big players sell a premium storage plan while still offering the free basic package.
Please note that this topic is tagged “in-development”. I don’t know the timing, but there will be a subscription option for cloud storage at some point.
That’s encouraging news. Thank you!
I prefer my own cloud/hub, I’m sick and tired of the subscription system…everyone wants their hands in your bank account every month. Add it up…from video programs like Adobe to door bell camera cloud storage…I personally have ZERO desire to add more subscriptions so I’d prefer my own cloud.
A cloud of your own.
I’d rather just have a storage solution
Lol, no more bank account leaches please! Lol
@Loki
I knew and I should have given you credit for it, apologies. I guess I am a bit irritated because, in my perception, Wyze took too long to accept their users’ wishes, in fact my feeling was that Wyze showed quite an attitude in the beginning on this topic.
Good point, worth testing, it heavily depends on how good the person detection is.
