When I get a motion event, the recording will often skip 1-3 seconds. Not every time, but most of the time. Often, it’s at the very beginning, i.e. the part of the video that actually triggered the event. So, I might see one frame of someone about to place the package on the porch, then it will show the package on the porch and the delivery guy nowhere in sight. I noticed one event last night with two such skips. It’s not just the playback, because if I rewind it does the exact same thing. I have an SD card in the camera at the moment, and it shows the time period covered by the skip, it’s just not in the cloud recording.
No mine are all doing it and they are not old. I think it’s on going problem and are trying to fix/figure it out. Mines goes on and off line and had skips in sd card. But you still get notifications of what is going on.
Mine’s been doing it a lot longer than two weeks. It’s just I don’t think about it when it happens, and I don’t think about it when I have time to investigate (e.g. look at the SD card recording) or post.
@jeffermc, are you experiencing this issue with Cam OGs set for Continuous microSD recording while those Cams are attached to a subscription? If so, then your issue may be the same as discussed in OG Events Skipped on micro sd card, and it would probably be best to merge this discussion into that one.
I think this is something else from the OG issue we’ve been discussing. That other issue seems to miss the entire event and may even be due to the cam rebooting, much more than 1-3 seconds.
My OGs don’t have this symptom so it isn’t age related (mine are the original OGs, not the 2025 updated one, so plenty old).
My guess is it is related to connectivity and having trouble uploading to the wyze servers, but hard to say without additional info. Could also be some issue with the cam, or maybe even the SD card, if the SD card is glitchy it could be freezing the cam briefly as it starts to write to it.
I’d say try without the SD card and see if the cloud clips change (if you haven’t already). Then if possible, maybe bring the cam closer to the router, or move the router closer to where the cam is, just to see if it is related to connectivity.
There is also the option of factory resetting the cam, deleting it from the app, and setting it up fresh, maybe there is just some glitch.
What is actually odd though is that you don’t seem to be seeing what others are seeing, where having both SD card and cloud causes the OG to reboot. Maybe yours is just showing a less severe version of that particular glitch….. Is your SD card on continuous recording or event only? I wonder if that factors in to the current issue others are seeing, I think most who have commented on that issue are doing continuous. Maybe if you are motion only the glitch is just a brief freeze like you’re seeing.
Sorry lots of “maybes”, just throwing some ideas out.
Thats good to know, because ive noticed that too. When someone is walking down the street, The OG doesnt start recording until they are half way past my house. My old Ezwatch DVR used to somehow record people, Before they even got into view, Dont know how that was done!
I would guess some kind of memory buffer where video is stored until the camera or DVR determines that there’s action worth capturing to mark an event, then that is incorporated as “pre-roll” into the saved recording that appears before the motion that actually triggered the recording. I think I’ve read that some Wyze Cams are supposed to do this, but I don’t recall exactly where I’ve read that or which devices it applies to. A 4-channel NVR and camera system that I still use does the same thing.
No, I read that previously (and again just now) to make sure it was not the same problem. In that case, they’re missing the video from the SD card. In my case, the SD card record is complete, but the event recording is missing a time slice. This problem also happens when not recording to an SD card at all.
So I just tried something that APPEARS to be working for my 2 older OG’s. In Event Recording I changed the recording preferences to All Events instead of Smart Detection, and then under Customize Detections I unchecked everything except Other Motion and Other Sounds. I did that this morning and have had 4 motion detections(people walking by) which uploaded to cloud and have no gaps in the SD card, and have correct timing of 15 sec and 13 sec(none of the erroneous 5 minutes). I have Cam Unlimited so have not been able to remove them from it. So far working normally now. Will continue to monitor.
That’s a good data point to know (fyi @WyzeJasonJ). So it potentially could be related to the extra load placed on the camera by the image recognition. The majority of the “work” for this is done by Wyze servers but it does require the cam to potentially upload more stuff.
Would explain why my “simulation” didn’t reproduce the issue since that was the equivalent of “other motion", and limited to once every 5 mins.
That seems to be working here for me. I have many OGs spread out in 3 different locations. Your trick seems to be working. Tomorrow I’ll double check to see that there are no gaps in the sd card and that the videos are not showing 5:00 in length. You may have saved me from returning about 7 OGs! If this works, I will update my Wyze ticket.
Even though this topic’s creator says that this is not the same issue as what’s been described in OG Events Skipped on micro sd card, they still seem very similar (or the same) to me based on what I’m reading, so maybe @rick5 would want to take a look at that related topic and propose the work-around there, as well.
You’re probably on something here. That makes a lot of sense, and I will try that to see if that does change the behavior.
I do see this as a diagnostic step; the reason I’m paying for CamPlus is for the ability to do smart detections and not just create events every time the wind blows. If Wyze cannot repair this functionality, it will make me rethink my CamPlus subscription.
