We have DEER, Mountain Lions and PETS that are NOT OUR PETS. Why doesn’t AI have that category?
Sometimes we might expect too much from AI. In San Francisco driverless cars can’t even tell an orange cone is on its hood.
I’ve always used the Pet category for all animals except insects. But often it won’t identify dogs that people are walking. Doesn’t seem to matter if they are small or large or dark colored walking on a lighter colored street/sidewalk. It’s just terrible. Every now and then it will ID a deer at as Pet, which is good. But then it would ID a bird on my fences as a Person. I wish Wyze would just abandon this whole identification category thing because the only thing that really matters is movement. When the AI is unreliable, then it’s pointless. When I use the Event Recording setting of All Motion Events, then I get too many notifications/recordings. So I’d change it to Smart Detection Events and check the things I want it to record, but often the AI either missing things or ID’s them incorrectly so when I get the notification it either grabs my attention unnecessarily or not at all because it was incorrect. Sometimes the AI seems to be learning and I try to help it by submitting hundreds of my recordings daily but then it’s seems to be dumb as all get out. It’s gotten so frustrating!
And I really hate that a few years back Wyze reduced the recording sensitivity. My camera’s used to catch movement quite a ways away, now they don’t even see that far to record an event. And I wish they’d make the Detection Zone grid boxes even smaller, so we can really fine tune it.
