No video at the selected time? 😔 Fourteen cameras are now literally useless!

I have re-formatted my SD cards and still doesn’t work. 30 seconds of viewing from SD card and they all freeze.

Does anyone know if it would it fix the issue if I bought CAM+? If so, I would do the unlimited camera package.

My personal opinion is that Cam Plus won’t. Cam Plus doesn’t have anything to do with SD card access.

Agreed, I have cam+ on all 16 cameras and viewing playback from SD card remains an issue. The ā€œhigh enduranceā€ cards will be here soon and I’ll try to keep this thread updated on my findings. With any luck (ok this is being optimistic now!) I’ll be able to post a PSA on the issue and put an end to the frustration.

After the latest update on OG , playback freezes from sd card on the latest hot fix al. This is card I use formatted and even swapped cards , the og at only a month old

I have the same issue. My V2 doesnt evan have a ā€œplaybackā€ bar at the bottom. Only the V3 does ? In fact none of the battery powered cameras have the playback feature but do have an SD card …

The battery powered WCO do have playback (Kind of) if you record to the SD in the cam. You have to tap the download icon on the event and it will download to your phone/device media album and can also be viewed on the scheduled recordings screen.

I have been having the same problem with card issues for quite some time. I have not used the high endurance cards. They cost as much as the camera. Sometimes a disk check will fix issues and you won’t lose your old recordings. But you have to get the card down from the camera and sometimes that is a huge pain physically.
My biggest complaint is that you will only know that it is not recording if you go and manually check. There has to be a way to have an in-built disk check and at least a notification that recording has failed to the SD card.

Wyze is pretty hard on sd cards, I have to replace mine way more in wyze products than others using the same brand/size card.

I installed one of the high endurance sandisk cards in a camera which would not playback anything, and so far playback is working with the new card. Going to give it a week or so before I jump to the conclusion ā€œsolvedā€.

Someone said that a batch of cards could all go bad within a window of a few weeks/months since they have a limited number of writes they can handle. I had all of them on continuous record. I agree this sounds like a plausible explanation.

Let’s assume that’s the answer… Then there are a couple factors we should consider when selecting cards.

  1. ā€œenduranceā€ is specifically about number of write cycles it can handle, among other things, as stated on the packaging. More write cycles = card lasts longer.
  2. size of the card: a card that’s double the size and being recorded to continuously, would last twice as long as one half it’s size. This is because for the same number of weeks of recording, you’re ā€œusing upā€ fewer of the car’s allowable lifetime of write cycles.

The THREE DOLLAR sd cards I was using are 16 and 32 gb - relatively ā€œsmallā€ by todays standards (I can’t believe I’m saying that!), lasted 2 years with continuous recording. That’s really not bad! The new high endurance 64gb cards are $11, so I’m expecting a lot more life out of them, assuming the hypothesis of ā€œused upā€ is correct. Time will tell.

I know Wyze promotes their own SD cards. Is there anything on the packaging to suggest they ā€œhigh enduranceā€? Only the elevated price of the card would hint at that.

Maybe that is the reason to upgrade?

It’ll take a year or so for the ā€œhigh enduranceā€ cards to prove themselves to you. I have 9 of ā€˜em (11 if you count those in my RedTiger F9 dashcams). The oldest is July 2018, and, it is still kycking it.

Once you get that warm fuzzy, I’d ā€˜preciate it if you would smash the ā€œsolvedā€ :white_check_mark: box from my post above.

They are NOT, which is why we constantly talk about this topic on this forum. Sometimes, I feel the need to apologize for sounding like a broken record record record record.

5 years lifetime would be nice. what size are your cards?

I have Samsung High Endurance 128GB and 256GB. The 128 states it is good for 7.99 years continuous and the 256GB states 16 Years. I am on my second year without any problems yet. The cards are not cheap but I got them on special sales for $20.00 or a little less. I have :moneybag: :moneybag: to burn.

Samsung Endurance and SanDisk Extreme cards go on sale from time to time. They are top of the line, the Teamgroup cards are probably in the next class.

Agreed with this…after the last firmware update my cameras are not operating correctly. I have a variety of camera’s, some with SD cards some without, all on the cam+. This is very frustrating.

I am responding to a thought from another thread that I am chasing…

Interesting… I just brought the SD card to work and viewed it. I see what you are saying. One minute videos are stored.

Now I am thinking the video playback in the App is not stitching the files together. I am guessing that when you try to view, it starts within that one minute file and plays until the end of it. When you hit the 30 secs forward button, it jumps into the next file at the 30 sec mark and then only plays to the end of the one minute file which would be the 30secs of playback I am seeing before it freezes.

Any chance WYZE may read this and comment? Again, OG cameras only!!! my others are fine…

Thanks Antonius…

I have 5 Cam V3’s that I have had in continuous recording operation with SD Cards since this past late August/early September of 2023, without any paid + plans. Once in a while I will notice that one or two of them will have stopped recording to the SD Card for no particular reason.

Unfortunately, WYZE does not provide any kind of warning notification or little warning symbol anywhere to alert you to the fact that SD Card recording has stopped (it’d be REALLY cool if they did…) and the live view will stay fine, so the only way you discover it happening is conducting periodic checks on your own (an occasional ā€œroll callā€ if you will) of all your cams to make sure they are still recording properly to the SD Card, or going into the recordings because you want to review and/or retrieve some video footage of something important that you wanted to keep or share, only to find out then that the cam does not have the footage saved because it stopped recording some time ago and you weren’t aware if it. That’s the worse way of the two to find out they stopped recording.

This does not happen frequently and seems to be very spontaneous. I have not noticed any pattern to it occurring more often than other times, like right after a firmware update, certain temps, weather, etc. If there is a ā€œcommon threadā€ to it, I haven’t yet discovered what it might be. It’s not just happening to any one or two cams, it happens to them all but luckily like I said, pretty infrequently.

The only way I can resolve the issue is to do a re-format, with the unfortunate side-effect of losing all the past recordings and it starting recording storage from scratch again. Because of this, if anything happens around the house that I want to keep a recording of, I make sure that I make a recording of it onto my phone as swiftly as I can, so in the possible event the SD Card recording decides to crap out again, I already got the footage I wanted off of there.

I have this same SD Card in all 5 of the cams. I bought these because they were advertised as being one of the best to withstand the conditions they’d be subjected to outside. The Amazon product page said: ā€œSanDisk Extreme microSDHC and microSDXC UHS-I Cards are shockproof, temperature-proof, waterproof, and X-ray-proof.ā€ They were $20.99 each when I purchased them, I just looked tonight and they were up to $29.99 so I guess I caught a sale back then maybe. They have worked great so far, storing approximately three weeks of continuous recordings (the above issue notwithstanding) and cue up the recordings and play them back very fast. I know I could’ve went with a smaller storage size of the same brand / type of card and saved a few bucks but I’m big on the storage thing, just my personal choice and probably from 19 prior years in the Security field, where camera storage was essential, rubbing off on me.

It’s a real pain when you find out this SD Card issue is happening so hopefully it stops or at least stays a very infrequent occurrence for me, and I hope everyone else here gets their particular issues resolved as well. Good luck everyone.

If you want the microSD cards to work reliably, you need to be using ā€œhigh enduranceā€ cards period full stop #yw

3 of my cards are outside in the Texas 110 heat and occasional freeze.

I appreciate, and respect, the fact that most all of the responses have been based on my SD card choice. I have a picture below of all of them I have tried now.

My first Wyze camera was purchased in Jan 1, 2020. Still going strong with no issues. I started to buy Wyze OG version cameras on Jan 28, 2023 and now have 15 of them. (27 Wyze cameras total) They were all working fine with the Gigastone 32GB. I started to update some of them to the Team Group 128GB just for added playback storage back in June 2023.

All have been fine and fully functioning until two weeks ago approximately. The OG cameras will not play video back within the APP for more than 30 seconds. Then they freeze. You can jump forward 30 seconds and they will then play for 30 additional seconds. All of the playback files are intact when I put the card into a reader on my computer. Again, non OG versions are still fine.

In the past days I have tried 2 versions/brands of ā€œHigh Enduranceā€ cards. They both failed on my OG cameras but were fine in my ā€œNON-OGā€ cameras.

I lean towards a bad firmware update that isn’t correctly stitching together the 1 minute files it creates on the SD.

My Wi-Fi is strong in each location. I have Starlink with (7) EERO mesh routers throughout the buildings here that they are communicating with at 2.4ghz.

Having the same issue on 2 OG after the last update on iOS latest app also only on the og usin this usd card in all other 8 cameras on the og is having the issue
