I trying to isolate what I think is a bug. Do you have an SD card? If so, all of your events should be visible in Playback, as marked by green. (Hitting the left arrow or right arrow will jump to the next event.) They should all be there. If not, turn your sensitivity up to 100, and test again.
I’m getting fairly certain that the symptom appears to be that events are captured at lower sensitivities, but notifications aren’t being generated for them unless the sensitivity is set high or to 100. Wyze Support/Developers have already confirmed with me that the SD card recording should use the same sensitivity settings you set for your Event alert notifications. The “bug” I believe is that the cam is NOT doing this, but instead is triggering Playback and Notification sensitivities independently of one another.
I’ve tested my Pan Cam at 80% sensitivity, and walked in front of it. No alert notification. I then set it to 100% sensitivity and walked in front of it. I received an alert notification. I then went back into Playback mode from my SD card, and both events are there, marked in green, and visible as normal. From reading most of the other comments from various Community posts and under my post, this seems to be the same symptom they’re reporting once I’ve looked at them with fresh eyes.
Do you have a SD card?
Ok no notifications on all of my cameras SOLVED.
I’ve only been using app for about a week now so I’ve been pushing every button I can so I can learn app. So I was on home page and noticed little bell icon in upper right. It had a line through it. I pushed it and line went away. Omg so I googled it and found out you can stop all notifications on all cameras at once if you like. So all my cameras are sending notifications now. Very funny. I’m sure I’m not the first newbie to figure this out.
Good catch. FYI, that global notifications switch is also found on the Account > Notifications screen of the app. More on notification settings:
There are three places to control push notifications:
-
Per camera in the cameras Settings > Event Recording > Send Push Notification. This can be controlled by the camera owner or shared user and will affect both.
-
Globally on an account basis by tapping the bell icon on the top right of the home screen, or using the switch in Account > Notifications. This affects only the owners or shared users login account on all devices they have logged in to the Wyze app.
-
In the phone’s OS settings, which can enable or disable all notifications from any particular app. This applies to only that particular phone/tablet. (Note: this is not possible in some versions of Android.)
You can think of the three notification control options as three concentric rings or gates. If the inner gate (level-1, per camera) is closed, no notifications get beyond that level. If the gate is open, then the notification can attempt to get past the next level (level-2, account), etc.
I never even noticed that ringer bell, lol. I’m getting notifications for two of my three cams, so I have a different issue. But these things happen to the best of us. Glad you’re up and running though!
I think that’s a problem with the current color scheme. There isn’t enough contrast to see these things. Knowing it’s there and straining to see/use it, is causing a lot of eye-strain.
Okay, so SOME of your notifications are coming in but one camera is still being stubborn? Sounds like the sensitivity settings may be acting up for you. I’m sorry about that.
Well, I have all my cams working now through a trial and error workaround. (I deleted the device, reinstalled it, and then jacked my sensitivity up to 100%. So I got it to work,) But it’s not really working the way it’s supposed to, I don’t think, based on reports from others and how the developers say it should work. So I did some further testing, and it seems that alert notifications are not triggered at the same sensitivity threshold as the Events triggered and recorded successfully in the SD card playback mode. It’s the kind of thing where I think casual customers might just give up and return the devices because “they’re not working,” rather than consider it a mere bug. No notifications in a lot of people’s mind would render the device useless to them. But me, I was more intrigued to see what might be going on. I’ve since been asked to send a second set of my app logs plus a new addition of my SD card logs to Support, and the developers are looking at them to confirm the bug and make an app/firmware update, or just to stand still and point while collectively laughing at me. All for the betterment of the community. They’ll keep me updated, and I’ll share whatever updates they provide. But I have a “bandaid” on my Pan cam right now that’s still working for me until then.
This is true. Motion tagging and event recording to the SD card are not on the same sensitivity as for notifications. I find this to be not intuitive and causing a lot of WTH responses. There seems to be a missing link where sensitivity actually starts triggering a notification. For example, if motion tagging (green box) were to identify every motion recognizable and a red box identified motions that trigger notification, users would be able to fine tune the sensitivity and could visually see what should trigger a notification.
I really like that idea, OverWatch!
@YeahThatCee, we promise to remove identifying information while collectively laughing at you.
But seriously, thank you so much for your patience and help with this! You’re a rock star!
Thanks! @Loki has it in a pending #roadmap until he can check on some other potential development. I think there has been some discussion on only showing motion tagging if it meets the user selected sensitivity level. Where I’m suggesting simply changing the tagging color once it meets that threshold. Users would then be able to see motions that are recognizable as movement, but ignored, along with motions that trigger a notification.
Edit: Here’s the roadmap. Go vote!
I’m not sure if that would work with this hardware but it’s a great idea!
I think it would eliminate a ton of trouble tickets.
Hah! Nice pitch. I’ll mention it to the team.
This is the exact same problem I am having from my camera’s. From your post I am setting my camera’s to 100% to get a notification, but not syncing the SD card event sensitivity with the Cloud notifications seems broken and will definitely trigger a lot of people to think the product is broken.
I think the event recording at a higher sensitivity is a “out of an abundance of caution” approach, which is fine as long as people understand it. It’s just not really intuitive as I mentioned above. The sensitivity adjustment is for your notifications, so there are really two thresholds. One for motion, which is identified by the green motion tagging box and another for notifications, which is somewhat of a mystery and controlled by the slide bar. That’s my understanding. Subject to change and YMMV. I’ve simplified my life and just turned on continuous record.
Just doing my part!
Unsure if this helps anyone, but I have suffered from “too many devices” issue. I had Wyze app on two Android phones and an iPad. When push notifications are received by the first device, they are apparently not “pushed” to other devices on that account. You can go to the “events” and see them, but you may not get a notification on the device you have in your hand at the time. I have resolved by turning on all notifications within each app on all devices, then removing/uninstalling the Wyze app from two of my three mobile devices. I seem to be getting all notifications of events now on the single device. Hopefully, Wyze can figure out a way to confirm receipt of push notification on multiple devices. Perhaps users cold simply state how many push receipts they want? . . .
