No longer do I leave the lights on

Used one Wyze sense and three wyze bulbs and now I don’t leave the closet lights on all the time

Yup, it’s great isn’t it? I do something similar to turn my enclosed porch lights on and off, but I use the Wyze Sense motion detector for that. Actually, I have two motion sensors, one inside the porch for when entering from my living room and one outside for when I’m walking up the steps to enter from outside.

I haven’t figured out how to use my motion sensor yet. I’m still debating that. We have so many cats and dog that I’m afraid anywhere I put it they’ll TripIt all the time

Cats tripping a motion sensor? Nah, never happen.:grin::grin:

Now imagine three indoor cats in an indoor dog. And for outdoor barn cats. I don’t know anywhere I could put that sucker without someone trip and it

Hello paindonthurt
Perhaps mounting a motion sensor about 5 to 6 feet high on a wall. To prevent it from sensing the pets, place a 1.5" length of a toilet paper core over it. You may need to vary the core length. If it works for you, paint to match the wall.

Truth, the camera based motion sensor that the cat tripped in my video was on an end table, fairly low. There is an actual Wyze Sense motion sensor in the same room mounted about 5.5 feet up. The cats rarely trip that one.

Wyze motion sensors just detects one-way correct? Like could I do one Wyze motion detector that when I walk in the door it turns the lights on and when I walk out the door it turns the lights off

That’s how my closet is set up. Light turns on when the motion detector detects motion. Lights turn off when it is clear for two minutes. Similar setup for the garage, kitchen, spare bedroom and bathroom. I haven’t touched a light switch in ages.

I would need to order quite a few lightbulbs

Gotcha there. I have somewhere around 25, but I did it a few at a time. And it was a lot less than I ha spent on Hue lights for the entire house, which are now sitting in the back of a closet. For us, it was worth $8 each to replace the white bulbs with the tunable bulbs.

I just ordered a motion sensor light switch for that room. For 20 bucks. If I would’ve known that what you’ve told me I could’ve useD the motion detector the way you do. I would’ve just ordered four more bulbs because I have four more senses to use too. But I’ll figure somewhere for it because that’s a great idea!

If I could get back everything that I have spent on ideas of my own without any input from people with more experience or knowledge than I have, ( e.g. laptops, NAS devices, monitors, mice, IoT devices, and on and on. Just bought a house and found a box full of cables that I didn’t even realize that we had, and I have no idea what they are even for) Then my wife would be a very happy person. All in all, it has been a fun and eventful ride. That aside, now in my mid fifties, I am ready to just have something that works. And it’s only money.

Well you talked me into an order. :grinning: I ordered one light and I ordered the set of two plugs. I’ve been waiting to order the plugs but I didn’t want to just order them on their own I wanted to add something to the order to make it worth the freight fees. So I am going to use the motion sensor and to Wyze bulbs in the laundry room and it should work just fine. And I’ll be moving one wyze Bob from the front porch which my wife didn’t particularly like anyway she liked controlling it from the switch so then everything‘s gonna be perfect. I have most of my house run off of Lutron right now Caseta which doesn’t use Wi-Fi so it’s not Picking up a lot of Wi-Fi band with the space which is nice. And it’s also Alexa enabled if I would choose to use Alexa. But I agree with you I love technology and I have spent a lot of money on it. Have you seen my avatar picture of my home theater? 150 inch 4K screen, epson 6040 UK 4K enhanced projector and the hub is in Onkyo TXRZ 830.

One warning about the Echo integrations. My wife hates to go in the garage to do laundry anymore because when the motion sensor detects her opening the door, the Echo announces an intruder alert in the garage, and she is kind of offended at being called an intruder in a house that we own.

Yep. I do the same thing in my living room. Whenever I open the front door, my living room lights come on. If I’m leaving the house, I always say “Alexa, Bye.” which is tied to a routine that turns on Alexa Guard and turns the lights off 60 seconds later.

I have several areas set up like that. It’s great “when they work”. And that’s most of the time. But they get the Hiccups now and then…

The only problem I have is sometimes my door doesn’t shut like totally completely in the lights don’t go off so I have to make sure that the door is completely like pulled tightly shut
