Night vision degrading

I can only speculate that it is because it is using the same video compression routine on the cams themselves before it is saved to the SD, transmitted to the cloud, or streamed to the player. No idea how the Firmware Minions in the cam accomplish it. I just know you can make a great video look like crap by running it thru a file compressor and fiddling with the frame rate, quality, resolution, bitrate, etc. If the Firmware Minions in the cam have been told by Wyze Gru to value quantity (or lack thereof in this case) over quality, Mel is probably pushing the crew for a production bonus.

Will this do?

That is exactly what I don’t understand. You would think to accomplish that you’d need a powerful processing, something more sophisticated than a tiny camera chip

And if reducing server file size and transmit speed is the reason behind it, it will never get fixed unless Wyze walks away from cloud based service :frowning:

I’m guessing the latest firmware haven’t fixed the issue? Did it make it worst?

EDIT:

Also, it turns out that the new 4.36.10.2700 is bricking some cameras. Scroll down to see the latest posts:

Hmm.

I wasn’t aware there was Edge AI still active on the cameras after they lost the Xnor collaboration. Thought all detection AI was AWS cloud-based.

Guess they owned a foundation to build on and continued developing.

Maybe it’s been an expanding hybrid all along?

Here is a crazy thought. What if the degradation has nothing to do with Firmware updates? What if it is server based and is controlled somehow on the server side? Is this even possible?

Test it. Turn off event recording and record to the SD only, or start recording continuous to the SD and turn your Wi-Fi off, no server involved.

I might just do that once I’m back home in the city. Not enough light at night here to run the cameras without IR on, it’s pitch black.

How’s your :raccoon: :raccoon: :raccoon: friends, enjoying your shed?

I think they moved to Florida

Absolutely agree - it’s not the exceptional image that it once was.
