New V3 update at installation KILLED IT now solid red light of DEATH

I have auto update disabled on all my cams, but I think I heard some have it enabled and you can’t turn it off. Not sure if that is actually the case but everything from OG and Panv3 back should let you disable it.

Are you talking to me???

I am still gooey from the last time we bonded.

Agreed. Legitimate sounds appropriate. Frustration > Patience = Pressure (Need to Vent).

It’s a 4-way. :hushed:

Plenty of goo to go around.

OMG why is it so hard to find how to edit a post!? Just wanted to add that part of the scorn in og post is that last week my outdoor cam just decided to quit recording. Had a couple years, all settings on, PIR, 100% sensitive, far, blah blah. Base is fine but the only way it has recorded a clip is picking it up and tapping it. Yeah so another camera gone for no reason.

Dave27 it happened AGAIN!! :sob: Was so stoked to find out today that apparently I bought three V3’s at that orange box store sale last year. Had two more still in sealed boxes. Second cam connected fine this afternoon and of course I skipped the update at end of installation that killed the first one. Naming, settings, adding to subscription, everything went fine. It recorded clips so I turned it face down so nothing would be triggered during ota update from app.

Just like I said, it’s scary as heck but went to firmware updates and made sure all notifications were turned off on phone etc. Literally no one breathed within a mile radius for 15 minutes as cam clicked away saying updating on app until it changed to UPDATE FAILED. After that of course the cameras dead, says lost connection.

Flashing firmware and dealing with configuring files of a brand new camera at this point is not happening. Not gonna be blamed for anything. Calling customer service for a replacement. This is BEYOND believable. Can’t even attempt to connect the third and final camera knowing they will destroy it! :rage:

Who is your home internet provider and do you use their router? I wonder if it is somehow blocking or corrupting the firmware update server.

Have you tried updating any of them using the SD card method? Try the older one first, and if it succeeds, try the newest one. If that works you know something is up with your phone or internet. If the latest update was bricking all v3s we’d see a lot more about it here.

I used that same setup with no issue, till I got mesh. Wyze problems are strange. Why do some have problems and some do not? I am not blaming the network. It’s a puzzle.

Understood, not looking to blame anything of yours, I just personally like to eliminate variables and try things before getting support involved, so when they ask I can just say “already tried that, and ruled out an internet issue” etc.

If one of the cams is readily accessible and you have a microSD card, worth a shot to try the manual firmware update. While I do allow my wyze cams to update over wifi, when I do my Asus router or other things, I do it hardwired, just to eliminate the possibility of any wifi issue bricking something. I think it is worth a try if you have the time.

It’s okay, thx for explaining. Are you saying use the white cord from the cam without the power block and plug the end of the cord’s USB straight into the router then click update in the app? Not that I can do that with any of these three but that’d be good to know and do next time. Yeah I told her I tried all y’alls suggestions here but wasn’t comfortable with messing with files of a new camera so we got through it pretty fast. Plus she’s not going to make me try much on a solid red light bricked cam.

Got the cams info and pics emailed so hopefully it works because I think I paid cash during a veterans day discount or something last year. Meaning I don’t have exact date of purchase. Can ship back with new boxes though and screenshotted cam from this aft info page showing installed today. But let me know on updating straight to router. Took your advice and turned off all auto updates. Direct to router updating would be a Godsend if it always works. Thanks again.

No, I was just saying when I update my router I do it hardwired. The USB cable on these cams is for power only, no data.

With these cams the only way to do it “hardwired” is to put the firmware file on a micro SD card and follow the instructions on their site. It will take the file off the card, in a way “hard wired”.

Hmm, if I don’t find out how to update by directly connecting to router maybe I’ll try disconnecting the extender first next time. I’ve had the same setup for over 5yrs and had flawless OTA updates too. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Oh sry, interesting. I usually about once a monthish just unplug it and let it reboot. Router has a white cord directly to the wall jack as well as power plug.

Yeah that’s probably coax or ethernet to your ISP. Ignore the router thing, that was just an example of something I like to do firmware updates hardwired to avoid potentially bricking it.

For the cams, the only way to do non-wireless is with an SD card however once installed, that probably isn’t an option. But shutting off your extender during updates may help (assuming the cams still have enough coverage without it).

Oh yeah it’s always been good wi-fi coverage. Couple years ago I thought an extender would be good to use with an outdoor cam like 80 ft from router. Didn’t leave it that far away very long but kept the extender plugged in so would think it’s still functioning lol. That outdoor cam recently stopped recording clips, waving hand in front of it etc, after full charge last week but still says connected and can see live view. This is so exhausting but at least it all made me sleep like a log last night.

Extenders can be problematic, especially if they aren’t part of a mesh system, but even if they are, still can have some glitches. If it is not needed, I’d say turn it off and save it for a rainy day or sell it. Too much wifi signal is almost as bad as not enough.

Wow okay, never heard too much Wi-Fi could be a problem! Still have an Arlo cam outside but will see if it’ll keep going without the extender. It’s been on a shed 5 years without one issue but do have to charge it.

Try Reolink. Had no problems with that brand. Happy to get away from Wyze. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. No problems with a Reolink
