I have a metal mailbox that is surrounded by a brick enclosure. I attempted to use a Wyze contact switch mounted inside the mailbox to get notifications when the mailbox was opened but the notifications were unreliable. I believe this was caused either because of the magnet being attached to the metal or the fact that the door is held closed by a magnet. My fix for this was to remove the magnetic contact from inside the switch (got the idea from lachlan6) and replace it with a microswitch. My mailbox is over 50’ from my camera/bridge and so far it is working well, once in awhile it will not report closed but when the mailbox is opened it has always reported open. Attached everything with command strips for easy removal.
