I already own a Wyze thermostat, and liked it at my last job. But it doesn’t allow me to create a schedule to match my new job.
I work a 2-2-3 schedule. This means that in two weeks:
I work Monday and Tuesday. Then I have Wednesday and Thursday off. Then I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Then I have Monday and Tuesday off. Then I work Wednesday and Thursday. Then I have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.
Or for a crude graphic, if we take a week to be Sunday through Saturday:
X O O X X O O
O X X O O X X
X O O X X O O
O X X O O X X
The thermostat scheduling in the Wyze app only allows you to set a weekly schedule, so I would have to remember to change my schedule every Saturday.
My alarm app, Sleep As Android, allows a lot more options for scheduling. It has:
- One-Time, meaning you can schedule an alarm that doesn’t repeat.
- Weekly, where you can schedule an alarms by the day of the week (the only option Wyze offers).
- Odd (This Week) and Even (Next Week), which allows you to create a schedule for odd weeks and a separate schedule for even weeks. Odd and Even meaning that this week is Week 1, next week is Week 2, etc.
- Non-weekly, meaning that you can schedule an alarm every n days. Such as every 2 days or every 31 days (Sleep as Android has a limit at 31 days, but I could easily imagine use cases where longer periods would also be useful).
- Day of Month, meaning you can schedule an alarm that only goes off on the 2nd, 4th, and 25th of every month.
Most of that isn’t useful for me, but all of them have use cases for devices that Wyze sells.
My only options right now to get Wyze’s “smart” thermostat to fit my schedule are:
- Use Sleep as Android to set myself an alarm every Saturday night.
- Use my Wyze thermostat as a dumb thermostat with an app. So I program the temperature low during the time I might be at work, but have to bump it up every few hours when I’m home.
And, before you mention it, Auto Switch has never been reliable in my experience.
