Modifying wording for Doorbell Press Notifications

The notification blurb for the older doorbell and the doorbell pro are exactly the same. If the ‘user’ could modify the wording, they could put which doorbell is being pressed. ‘Front door’, ‘Back door’, ‘Gate’, etc…

[Mod Edit] Title modified for clairification.

This is for the non VoIP doorbell presses which show as:

VoIP calls, motion alerts etc do show the name of the device in the notification.

On my old doorbell (not Pro), I get the message from Wyze “Hi, Someone is calling you at the door.” From Doorbell Pro, I get the message from Wyze “Hello, someone is calling you.”

There is no differentiation between the two other than the wording. There should be a way to add which doorbell the message is coming from.

I can’t tell which device generates the alert on the app

As an AirBnB host I have installed multiple devices in several locations. It has proven awesome and made my life and my guest’s experience a lot better.
The only downside is that when a doorbell is rung, I cannot tell from which device it comes from until I answer and recognize the location from the video feed. That has caused me to block my guests from answering themselves. Nothing serious, but annoying nevertheless.
I would guess that having the device name added to the smartphone’s app notification would be of great help to many.

Add origin to the doorbell notifications

When someone rings one of my Wyze video doorbell pros, I get a notification on my phone and Apple Watch the just says “Hello, someone is calling you.”

I am asking that the notification specifies which doorbell the notification is coming from.

Same here. I manage 9 properties with doorbells (v1 and v2). It would be more helpful for me if the message contained the device name as I named it. Besides, someone isn’t calling me at the door. Someone pressed the button. My ideal message would be a one character emoji (a door or a bell) followed by the device name.

I have 2 doorbells on my account, so when one gets rung, I can’t tell which one to go to quickly. It takes a long time to get the app to open to see which doorbell it was, so it would be nice to see the device name in the notification.

Which doorbell?

I have a Wyze doorbell and my parents have one that they share with me. When someone rings their doorbell, I get the same notification as when someone rings mine. That gets confusing. Surely you can change the message to clearly identify which doorbell is being rung?

Or maybe that feature exists and I don’t know it?

Questions

  • What are the doorbells’ names?
  • Do you see a notification difference if you change the name of one or both doorbells?
  • Are you using the Virtual Calls feature?

I saw that your original post was tagged for Video Doorbell v2. My Video Doorbell v2 is currently set up as a test device, and I’m using a Battery Video Doorbell at the front door. Doing a brief test of both just now, with Virtual Calls enabled, I received two incoming calls, and each notification showed me the name of the calling device as well as the icon I had assigned.

Unknowns

  1. I did not turn off Virtual Calls and test with regular push notifications. I like having that feature enabled because it’s probably the easiest way to differentiate doorbell button presses from other Wyze app notifications, and I can easily customize these.
  2. I did not set up a second Wyze account for sharing and then attempt sharing doorbells between accounts, so I don’t know what differences to expect there (with regular notifications or Virtual Calls).
  3. I don’t know if regular push notifications (in contrast to Virtual Calls) include the assigned name, because I did not specifically test this today.

Customizing Notifications

As an Android user, you can install and configure a third-party notification manager (e.g., MacroDroid, Tasker, BuzzKill) to intercept push notifications and make your phone do specific things with specific notifications. For instance, I’ve used MacroDroid to make my phone sound distinct notifications whenever a specific camera detects something. Each of those apps has its own way of configuring things, and you can find some guidance here in the Forum if you choose that route, but I think there’s an easier way that shouldn’t involve a third-party app:

Unfortunately that won’t work for regular Cams (though a third-party app can be useful for that on Android), but for doorbell button presses with Virtual Calls enabled in the Wyze app, this is the way I’ve been customizing notifications.

I’m just referring to the Android notification as is shown in a screen capture from ages ago. Really, how has this not been fixed yet?!

The doorbells are named distinctly in the app. Just put the right string into the notification!

I agree that regular push notifications should have options to be distinct for each device and that Wyze should build this into the app, because that would also solve the problem for iOS users who can’t employ third-party notification managers.
