Mirror (flipped/reversed) Image

I only have the 1 WiFi access point so I’m not sure about the second one you have for the RV. And, I am not a TinyCam pro.

You might find some help from the TinyCam users in the forums. Do a search for Tiny Cam \ TinyCam and it will populate lots of threads and posts.

I know of several users who use it extensively.

Mirroring the Cam V3 Display

The Cam V3 is an outstanding camera. Others have suggested it would work well as a dash cam and I agree. It would also work well as a rear view camera in an RV or when pulling a trailer. However, it needs a “mirror” function to be satisfactory as a rear view camera. Without a “mirror” function it is confusing as to where things actually are behind you. For example: when driving in the right hand lane, overtaking traffic would obviously pass your vehicle on the left–in the left lane. The camera would see the overtaking traffic as passing it to the right of the camera and this would show up on the display (an iPad or iPhone) as passing to the right of the display. However, accuracy requires that the overtaking traffic be shown as passing to the left of the display since that is where overtaking traffic actually is. Hence a “mirror” function as on other lower quality and more expensive dedicated rear view cameras.

Agreed. However in both of these settings: dashcam and rear view cam (currently can’t flip in Wyze), the V3 cam must start on WiFi and CANNOT be turned off if you leave that WiFi. It will continue to record to uSD so long as it remains powered, but live viewing it while away from that WiFi is also impossible. If powered off while away from that WiFi renders it useless until returning to the original AP.

So, a mobile cellular hotspot is absolutely a requirement if it is going to be used as a rear view cam.

There are other specialized products on the market that are purpose designed for this. The Wyze Cam’s dependence on WiFi makes it a tough sell for this purpose.

The only time I envision using it as a rear view cam is while traveling and towing a trailer. I can set it to the hotspot on my iPhone or iPad and set up the iPad as a display on the dashboard. So far that has worked well with the exception of just a bit of lag time between actual events and the display of those events. Since I do not travel at over 65 mph while towing it is helpful to see if traffic is backing up behind me or is tailgating me. I don’t plan on using it as a security cam while away from the campsite but it would be handy to keep an eye on the cats while away.

Mirror Image option in config - Inverted image is there why isn’t MIRROR image

I have been using WYZE Cam v3 since they came out on my boat. Pre-Ordered 2 units… I have been buy more and added the PRO since!
Great products, thanks.

We all know you give us the ability to invert 180 degrees for a camera mounted upside down. Great.
How about adding a MIRROR IMAGE too?!?!?!
Why?
I have a rear mounted v3 and a forward mounted v3… constantly showing friends and family what we are doing on our boat where we live year round. The rear facing v3 “COULD” serve me as a rear view camera.

“Why can’t it today?” you ask. Boats coming up behind me on my PORT SIDE show up on my v3 on the right side of the smart phone. Boats coming up behind me on my Starboard side show up on the left side… this is just the opposite of what I need. Cam v3 therefore fails as a “rear view mirror” !!! Mirror option is needed.

Some will put these in their cars and trucks for the same reason… IF we had a MIRROR option!

Please consider this.

Here are some other examples of what our v3 CAMs can do for us on the boat:

I fully agree!! I tried to use this as a rear view/backup camera on my small teardrop trailer. But, because of the reasons you articulate it is not very useful. MIRROR IMAGE would be a great addition.

I am not a software coder and every time I say “it is just a software issue” my brother gives me a long lecture about how hard coding really is. However, if it were really that hard we wouldn’t have all the apps that now exist.

Thanks for that feedback. If enough of us keep asking, they’ll be able to add the MIRROR IMAGE feature. It may not even require a change to the hardware we already have.

I mount my WYZE Cam v3 on the back window of my 5th wheel RV trailer. I display the image on my phone which is mounted over the rearview mirror (which is useless when I’m pulling the RV). The results are amazingly good… except what’s on the left side of the image should be on the right.
This makes it kinda dangerous if I can’t tell when someone is on my left or right and I want to change lanes. My truck and RV together are over 52 feet (16 meters) so that rear camera is important.
Please, Please consider adding the ability to ‘mirror’ the image.

NEED a mirror image feature for backup camera (boat, car, RV)

We really NEED a backup camera on our BOAT, CAR, and RV.

With no “mirror image” feature, stuff coming up on the left show up on the right.
Stuff coming up on the right show up on the left!!!

I submitted this years ago, and the idea got lots of good feedback. No progress.
Its a software feature. No hardware change needed. If you can invert an image, you can give us a mirror image too!!!

I don’t see there being a big demand for this as a feature on existing cams, especially because they really aren’t meant to run with no internet. You can get cheap backup cameras and even a screen for them off amazon.

Now a Wyze backup camera or dash cam, maybe they’ll venture into that at some point. But they seem to be sticking to home oriented stuff (even the bird feeder falls into this category and just uses one of the home cams with a macro lens stuck on it).

Most full time cruisers and RVs have a WiFi network aboard to stream their Wyze CAMs to family + friends. Starlink or terrestrial like ours. Our Boat’s Network | Shellerina's Blog.

Check out mobilemusthave.com, a big vendor in this business.

More common than you think.

I’m not saying it is an edge case - but it is it enough for Wyze to invest in the feature?
Bear in mind their app and firmware (and hardware) is all likely outsourced, any new feature requires a payment, not just a full time staffer than can jump on it covered by their salary.

I wonder if you could track down a stick on lens that would do it. Usually those both invert and flip the image but wyze has the “flip” feature that would cancel that part out.

The lag time with a Wyze camera would make backing really dangerous - in my opinion. Get a real backup camera.

The response time on the OGs as long as the cam and phone have good wifi is actually really good. Not sure on the other models (my Panv3s seem decent too, maybe slightly more lag).

Personally I hate backup cams anyway, after decades of looking over my shoulder or in mirrors, it is just unnatural. But I can see with an RV or box trailer etc it would make sense. I do use the one in my truck when parallel parking or hooking up a trailer, comes in crazy handy for both. My car is too old to have one, and it is really low and the hood is very long, I wish that one had both front and rear cams. Especially when switching back and forth between that and my tall boxy truck, it gets very confusing judging the depth of each one when parking or trying to turn around in tight spots.

I remember GM came out with this multi camera simulated view thing for trailers and campers. It looked kind of cool, but it seemed to die off. Or maybe they’ve just stopped advertising it. But one wonders how that “stitching” and “simulated view” actually worked, maybe it ended up causing crashes etc.

I have grown to love mine. Escpecially when I park inbetween two trucks. My backup cam can see down the street when I cannot. It also alerts me if anything moves. I still use the rear view mirror and side mirror and often turn my head.

Some cars have 360 vision. I saw the cams hidden on the side mirrors.

Yeah the mirror cams are cool for blind spot, but I probably wouldn’t use that either, just so used to using the side mirrors and glancing over my shoulder. Old, ingrained habits die hard. A lot of Hondas have them, and of course Teslas have like 10 cams on them now including front and rear driving/accident cameras. I installed those in my cars like 10 years ago when nobody had them, it is a nice piece of mind.

I have the backup sensors too. I don’t trust them either :grinning: but I do leave them enabled, can’t hurt. Well except for the fact that my truck likes to collect water in the bed when it rains (spray on bed liner made the drain holes clog easily), then when you back up and stop it pours out, sets off the sensors, and startles me.

Funny thing is the backup cameras are mandatory since 2015 due to people running over their kids in their driveways. The backup sensors probably will get added as mandatory at some point too. They’re even talking about a mandatory sensor for “your baby is still in the back seat”. Honestly if you’re forgetting your kid in the back seat, it is either intentional (has been proven a couple of times) or your genes probably shouldn’t be allowed to carry on anyway.

For the purpose, a half second lag is too much - and the Wyze cameras are not that good.

Not saying I personally would want to use one of these as a backup camera, but I can understand the use case for a large RV or trailer, you’re typically not going to be backing up quickly in that case, or may just want to check behind you. And running a wired camera back there is going to be difficult.

I think there are better solutions, just noting that my OGs are quite responsive and the lag is minimal.

I enjoy the cross-traffic sensor that alerts you if something is moving towards or away with audio and visual arrows.

My Dad had a 2022 Genesis that had the child left in backseat warning. I don’t have that on my 2023 Acura.

I like the sensors. I turned them off temporarily and almost backed into a car twice. I leave it on now. If they go off at a service window, I put the car in park and sound stops.

I always get the technology package for all the bells and whistles. Love the auto cruise control. Curious to see new gadgets in my next car.

My Dad turned most of his alerts :warning: off.
