I’m currently researching Dash Cams, and on the Viofo site, they have posted their recommended memory cards for a VIOFO dashcam. (I was leaning towards Samsung Pro Endurance over the Sandisk Max Endurance, as I’m happy with most all of my Samsung SSD purchases).
I realize there are many reasons that they could lean towards the Sandisk Max Endurance over the Samsung Pro Endurance, perhaps it’s something to do with their product itself that has an issue with the “NOT Recommended” listing on their page?
I did have issues with a 256GB SanDisk Ultra MicroSDXC in my Wyze Battery Cam Pros awhile ago, and tossed those into a V4, if I recall correctly to get those to work, I think one sits in a WCOv2, which I now realize is probably a waste to be there, but haven’t headed down the hill to retrieve it, as it’s a bit of a treacherous journey down that hill.
So perhaps I’ll go with ‘Sandisk Max Endurance’ the next time those go on sale.
I wish Wyze would post a recommendation page like this, with pictures of the recommended cards.
No. They haven’t even hired me! I didn’t say that I was hesitant or reluctant, merely that I hesitated, because I was curious to see if someone else would get there first. Thank you for obliging!
Both my dashcams have been running Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB for 10+ years. At that point Samsung was not really a contender in the market. I do like my Samsung Pro Endurance in my Wyze cams, however I’ve never tried them in a dash cam (they get quite hot). No reason to believe the Samsung wouldn’t handle it though.
Yeah their recommendations seem a bit odd (well other than their own brand, no surprise there).
The Sandisk Max Endurance does have a higher write rating than the Sandisk High Endurance, but both of them would last many years and probably fail from some other issue than writes before they hit that lifespan anyway.
Given how well my Sandisk Pro Endurance have been working my Wyze cams for 2 years straight now, having them in “not recommended” seems odd. Granted I have not exposed them to the same heat as a black dash cam in a windshield (very hot) but they’ve been fine in my wyze cams in the direct sun on 100+ degree days.
I don’t think you can really go wrong with endurance/pro cards from either brand.
Edit to add - the max endurance is the highest priced of the lot. Maybe they’ve got some agreement with Sandisk to push that card in exchange for making their own branded card for them (not sure if they do or not, just a conspiracy theory to add to the list).
The Viofo site recommends the SanDisk Max Endurance, and at the same time does Not recommend the SanDisk High Endurance, SanDisk Extreme Plus or SanDisk Ultra cards.
Perhaps the high heat environment that a Dashcam experiences, has them recommended the Max Endurance, and not the other SanDisk Cards that they do.
All things being what they are, if you use a Wyze MicroSD card in a Wyze Camera, then any issues with the camera that might be MicroSD card can’t be attributed to a non Wyze Card. Likewise with using a VIOFO recommend card in their dashcam (VIOFO Industrial or Sandisk Max Endurance)
I did a quick search to attempt to find out who manufactures VIOFO’s cards, and came up empty.
Pretty sure all the Sandisk cards have the same specs for temperature, humidity, xrays, etc etc. The main difference has always been speed and write endurance.
I know Lexar and PNY do a lot of white label cards for people, but I have a feeling the Wyze ones may be from someone cheaper. Though people seem to report that they stand up to the constant recording fine, so who knows. The fact that Viofo recommends their card or the Sandisk makes me think maybe Sandisk is making theirs, maybe they get a discount for also recommending the most expensive Sandisk variant.
That would make complete sense, and probably recommend only the Max Endurance because it is, I am assuming, the most expensive of the SanDisk offerings.
Yeah that’s my conspiracy theory as well. With the exception of some of the “special edition” cards with like gaming characters on them or marketed toward Nintendo users, the Max Endurance is the top of the line price offering.
