Microphone Issues - can't use them for calls

I pre-ordered these for myself and my wife and I’ve been using them for several weeks. The sound quality and features are good but the microphone seems to be awful. I’ve tried calling multiple people using them and always have to switch back to the phone mic after people say they can’t understand me. My wife is having the same problem. Is anyone else having this issue?
