I am going to assemble a small model. I would like to find a camera that I could use to do a time lapse of the assembly process. Therefore I would need something that could focus in the 1 to 3 foot range. I also would like something inexpensive. Anyone could help me would be greatly appreciated.
You can pick from V3, V4 or OG. Those would be the most inexpensive models.
One v3 I had could not focus close up. Seems a bit far sighted. I wonder if OG-Telephoto or v4 would be any better. @TomG has had good luck with focus.
I do like timelapse, especially on the OG.
The OG-Telephoto is probably the worse choice. For such a small distance, a macro-type lens, like what the bird feeder cam uses, is preferred.
@p2788deal expressed what I was thinking, and if you don’t want to purchase and then permanently modify a camera (i.e., void the warranty) like @TomG and others have done, then a couple of possibilities for non-permanent modification come to mind, depending upon the quality of images you’re getting out of the box with whatever camera you choose at the desired focal length:
- The Lens Bracket (macro lens) that ships with the Bird Feeder and is expected to be available as a separate accessory soon.
- A third-party close-focus lens that a Wyze Cam could slip into.
Welcome to the Forum, @lariardo!
Have you done much with your OG-Tel?
Yeah, but not at the 1-3′ range. The one I have spends most of its time looking out a window to give a close-up view of the driveway and street beyond. It helps me to capture when the little USPS truck goes by on the way to the CBU.
I wonder if a cellphone might be a better solution? I have used timelapse software on my phone.

To be honest, I bought my OG and OG-Tele out of curiousity. There’s really nothing for me to use the OG-Tele for. The OG is in the same class as the V3 and it was never used.
But I helped install a floodlight pro for a daughter. Seems I can now see my grandchildren play on their yard. But at some distances, their faces are blurred. So maybe I’ll donate my OG-tele
On our local freeways, time lapses during the rush hours probably will look like normal drives.
I felt the same way about OG-Tel. I really like the timelapse of my “OG” OG. The picture is clear but I don’t watch people.
I have several OG-Tele cameras and they are all looking at stuff that wants a more narrow field of view. Minimum focus distance is about 6 feet. You can get a little closer than that, but it’s clearly getting soft. The image below is an OG-Tele that is a little over four feet from the camera. You can see that the P-Touch labels are pretty blurred, but what I cared about was the amp meter currents (left half of each display showing -15.8 and -13.0 respectively).
For a more typical application, here is a V3 and an OG-Tele essentially side by side looking my neighbor’s house across the street - about 140 feet away. BTW, I’m watching her house at her request.
No explanation necessary.
A very nice comparision between the v3 and OG-Tel.
