Longer Cable for Solar Panel

Need a longer cable for the solar panel, 13 feet is too short for our application, 20 foot would be much better.

I was on the fence about buying on of these if an extension can be added to the cord, I assume you could just plug another USB cable into it?

Marlin, I’m wondering if you ever attempted adding an extension. The output of that panel may not handle the extra length (and it would be tough to test on the ending connector). The panel’s rated at 2.5 watts at 5 volts DC. I’ve been trying to get other specs on the panel so I can test it but “support” can’t find anyone who can answer a spec question (Voc, Imp, Isc). Let us know.

I am going to try a longer cable on a camera that doesn’t need a longer cable. That way I can still use the solar panel on that camera and then see if the longer cable will work on a different camera that needs it. Then if I remember, I will post the results here.

FYI - I connected two 16’ cables to ac adapter and v3 camera worked.

Here’s an update: I have installed the solar panel on two of my four outdoor cameras. One of these has (2) 13 foot USB extensions in addition to the native USB cable. So far both cameras are using the solar panels and are at 100% power.

The other two outdoor cameras now have solar panels. And these all work fine. For the most part, they stay at 100% charge through the night, and I don’t lose connectivity.

Hi,

I am also trying to extend the length of my solar panel cable. Can you pls share the link to the 13ft extension cable you are using outdoors. I believe the extension cable will be microusb female to miscrousb male, right? Also, assuming they have some weatherproof to be used for outdoors.

I have the extensions run inside my shop, so waterproofing wasn’t necessary. If you need to run them exposed, silicon tape would do the trick:

Cord furnished with the solar panels are too short for my application. It would be nice to have an optional extension cord to allow one to get to a mounting position to catch the maximum sun exposure,
