I’m a little confused on this. I just upgraded from the V1 lock to the V2 due to the fingerprint sensor stopped working. On the V1 I could set it to autolock after 15 minutes but only during the hours of 9pm to 9am. This worked great as my kids are older and come and go later at night.
On the V2 I have it set to autolock after 15 minutes but it does it all the time. I have the after hours lock set to 9pm. My question is if I turn off autolock but keep lock after hours set to 9pm and somebody leaves at 10pm, does it auto lock again. Or what if they come and go multiple times after 9pm, will the lock auto lock after all these unlocks or just the 1 time at 9pm.
This was a feature on the V1 that I really liked and needed because my kids never lock the door. Seems like it would have been available on the V2 as well.
No. This would not be my expectation given the current options in the app, and this is not how it works in my testing. Auto-Lock has no schedule within Lock Bolt v2 and can’t even be scheduled (enabled/disabled) in Automations. Once the Lock Bolt v2 locks at the appointed Lock After Hours time (if that’s enabled), it’s done automatically locking until its next appointed time (e.g., if you’re doing it daily then it would automatically lock again 24 hours later) unless you’re doing something else to trigger it. If you have Auto-Lock turned off, then it’s…off. I don’t believe these two features have any direct bearing on one another.
What do you experience when you test this?
I don’t think this is possible. I imagine that you meant that you have Lock After Hours set for 9:00 p.m., so that’s how I answered the question. If I misinterpreted your intent, then please let me know.
I don’t have any hands-on experience with Lock Bolt v1, but if that device allowed the Auto-Lock feature to be scheduled, then omitting the scheduling component from Lock Bolt v2 (and other new locks) seems like an unfortunate oversight. I think what you’re talking about has been requested in a Wishlist topic for Palm Lock. Maybe that topic should be updated to include Lock Bolt v2:
As with any Wishlist topic, you can visit that one to click or tap the Vote button above the initial post and share your ideas and use cases in the comments to show your support for the product and feature request/suggestions that are important to you.
Since you’re using such a long timeout for your Auto-Lock setting, you could potentially create your own work-around for this with Schedule Automations, but it’d be a bunch of Automations:
DO
Lock Bolt v2
Lock
WHEN
Start Time 9:00 PM
DO
Lock Bolt v2
Lock
WHEN
Start Time 9:15 PM
DO
Lock Bolt v2
Lock
WHEN
Start Time 9:30 PM
etc., until you get to your 9:00 a.m. end time…
That would get really tedious, though. If you have a spare Wyze Plug, Plug Outdoor, or Bulb Color (probably other Bulbs would work, but I have only Bulb Colors), then you could use one of those as a logical switch (and if it’s a Bulb Color, also as an accessory lock state indicator) in a simpler Automations scheme with only two Device & Service Trigger Automations:
IF
Lock Bolt v2
Unlocks
DO
Bulb Color
Turn on
Blink for 5 seconds ff0000 (red)
Set color selection ff0000 (red)
WHEN
Start Time 9:00 PM
End Time 9:00 AM
IF
Bulb Color
Has been on for 00:15:00
DO
Lock Bolt v2
Lock
Bulb Color
Turn Off
WHEN
Start Time 9:00 PM
End Time 9:00 AM
I haven’t tested this particular scenario, but I would expect it to work.
I appreciate your thorough response. Its funny I just set up about 40 automation lock tasks from 9:15pm every 15 minutes until 10:00am and turned off auto lock. I’ve kept on the lock after hours at 9pm. I then seen your update.
I did vote and comment on the wishlist entry so thanks for pointing me to that. This feature is definitely available on V1 so I find it strange they didnt include it on V2 (yet).
Really hope they add it soon. Again, thanks for your response. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the automation tasks and hope they trigger as they should if it’s unlocked.
Yikes! That was the first work-around path that occurred to me. What a mess.
The other work-around option really should take care of it with just two Automations, but it requires an additional device (Bulb Color, Plug, otherwise unused socket from Plug Outdoor, etc.). Using an additional device as a logical switch can be helpful for overcoming some of Wyze’s Automations limitations.
Like I said, I haven’t had one of the older Lock Bolts, so I can’t speak directly to what features may be available there. Omitting a feature on a newer product version is apparently something Wyze has done before, though. I think I’ve read user complaints about missing a “Turn on for…” Action in Automations (or something along those lines) for some of the newer Cam Floodlights that existed in a previous version, but I don’t have any of those.
