Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

I live in the PNW. Yes, it get cold here, but rarely below 30. This started on a v3, but now is showing up on a Pan v3 and outdoor cam; About one night a week, with all lights off, except the cam’s IR, I see what looks just like a snow flurry. The intensity is such that it triggers the motion alarm/notification. If you turn on some other light source like a porch or flood, there’s nothing there - crystal clear, because it’s NOT snowing. Turn the light off, the effect reappears immediately. Done all the usual troubleshooting steps/reset/power cycle/ reinstall… still the same
Have 4 other cams it doesn’t show up on…
Anyone else see this???

The IR lights are very good at illuminating/amplifying tiny bugs, dust particles, etc. Stuff you’d never see with the naked eye will be very obvious on the cam.

When it rains here, the mist flying around in the air that you can’t see at all with your eyes looks like a snowstorm in the IR lights and my pan cam that uses IR will track them all over the place.

The only solution really if you want IR and don’t want it to cause this is to get a separate IR light and mount it at least a few feet away from the camera, the further the better.

OP may be seeing something like this.

Definitely not snowing inside my garage.

Try turning off Night Vision and see if you have enough light source to run with it off.

Definitely moisture in the air.

Wish there was a time-lapse feature like this:

I do see a Timelapse feature for my Cam Pan v3s (and other Wyze cameras), but I haven’t really used it beyond a couple of tests. :man_shrugging:

:man_facepalming:t4: I just found it too :man_facepalming:t4::joy:
I’ll have to try it out next major snow event.

Here is video from Feb 2023. My v3 is inside looking at my backyard through a double pane window (so no sound not that blowing snow makes lots of noise).

@TomG made a good time lapse of his camera getting buried in the snow.

YES, I’m aware the IR will show bugs, moisture, dust & such but this isn’t any of those things. Sorry for the poor resolution, had to convert to a smaller file. This doesn’t have anything to do with time lapse. If you turn on another light where the cameras is, there is NOTHING in the air - cold, crisp, dry, barren night. Turn off light & effect comes back immediately and triggers motion sensing/notification.

How’s your clip any different than mine :point_up_2:

Is yours snow? You indicated that it’s moisture in the air, but I swear there’s nothing there when I turn the light on

Here is another creepy video from my garage. I think it is some kind of bug atracted to the IR lights.

There was no snow or rain at that time, just moisture in the air. You have to remember, the IR light are reflecting off small water particles, that’s why you see what you see. When you turn the regular lights on, the IR is not working so nothing to reflect back to the camera.

Totally normal with use of high powered IR lights. Like I said, IR will show things you cannot see with the naked eye.

Ever had a ray of sun going through a window and you drop something on the couch or shake something out and see thousands of little particles floating through the sun beam? Same idea.
