Finally some logic and reason! YES YES and more YES. Why they no do this? I hate them for not doing this.
I haven’t read the entire topic, but I voted and agree with the sentiment expressed in the title. When I think about Wyze’s stated values—specifically Operating Value: Maximize Every Component—I wonder why this isn’t more of a priority, especially when competitor devices such as Tapo C120 include this and more (such as built-in AI-enabled detection of persons, pets, vehicles, etc. without requiring a subscription) in a way that makes the newest Wyze Cam v4 seem somewhat crippled by comparison.
Why is there no RSTP or OMNIV for all the WYZE cameras?
The web viewer is awful and I need to see all my feeds at once, so I know what is actually happening in real time. Not later on after the crimes have happened.

I know you’re thinking making RTSP available takes away from the subscriptions, I would be willing to pay for the subscription to unlock RTSP as a feature.
Them you can have best of both worlds.
I’m NOT willing to pay a subscription for RTSP. There is no load on your servers when I run RTSP. Just sell the camera at a price where you can make a profit and don’t expect to get more money from me except when I buy new cameras.
FWIW, I’ve been trying to convince Wyze of this for years and they don’t care. I’ve moved on and now run Reolink cameras with Home Assistant. The Wyze ecosystem is stupid. Pouring money into a platform that requires subscriptions is really stupid. Don’t buy Wyze products. I’m waiting for my Wyze devices to fail so I don’t need the Wyze app any more.
I think I’m done with Wyze. We just moved, and I ran network cable for a Unifi setup. I still have multiple Wyze cameras in and out of the house, but Unifi will now work with just about any camera, so I will start replacing these a pair at a time until I’m done. The excitement that I once had about this company is gone.
I’m in the same situation. My Wyze cameras are gradually dying and I’m replacing them with UniFi networking and Reolink cameras. I had a Wyze Outdoor camera fail last week as the battery will no longer take a charge.
Good to see there are options out there.
Never used RTSP. Guess I should see what I am missing out on.
- Local control
- Multiple streams in any custom layout
- Store video locally on a hard drive in the house, no size limit
- Custom integrations - this makes it limitless examples
- Do your own custom AI detections for literally anything (visual or sound related) and custom alerts
- Automations basically without any limitations, and can control devices for other companies based on triggers from your cameras
- Traffic statistics (maybe how often people cross certain parts of your property or pass by your house at certain times of the day, whether in a car or a person or walking a dog or riding a bike or any kind of statistic you would want}. Know how often somebody goes a certain speed down your road, and who it was and get an alert about it with their license plate captured.
- Heat mapping
- Auto capture of things like license plates
- Behavior analysis integrations can be cool for certain use cases.
- Improve detection zone options, including tripwire, and exact pixel areas and improved detection sensitivity --which Wyze has decreased the maximum detection sensitivity limits significantly over the years.
- Audio analytics
- Improved time-lapse options
- Better geofencing automations
- Your own local AI integrations (LLM or other kinds) that aren’t reliant on the cloud and don’t share your data with anybody.
- You can set up alerts to let you know if something goes offline.
Honestly the possibilities are almost endless. There are so many projects out there, you can do so much.
Thanks. I saved this off in a note.
You convinced me. I will add my vote.
Yes, we need RTSP. I view it as something I would use in addition to the online cloud based part. I use the cloud/events the most of any feature but at time I need to go further back and look for things the events did not pick up. I have a memory card in the cameras so can go back about a week but doing this through the existing phone app. is not the best. Being able to do this on my computer would be way better and being able to store video for more than a week would be helpful too.
I’m sure the concern is with RTSP people will not subscribe to get the WYZE cloud services. I would - but some may not. How about a compromise - allow RTSP to work only when there is an active subscription?
Right now I’m reluctant to buy more WYZE cameras and am looking around at other options.
I think that is a fair compromise if they announce it ahead of time with good rationales. They would have to be clear that the reason they haven’t fully supported RTSP in the past is because they can’t afford to dedicate the resources to it (employee salaries they are paying to do something they make no money from means it is almost a complete loss for them). They make almost no money off their hardware and actually sometimes lose money off their hardware purchases, such as with the OG cams that they said they often price below cost to attract entry level new customers and hope a percentage of them will be interested in Cam Plus. It’s okay to admit that they can’t fund RTSP maintenance costs on hardware profits alone. They’ve attempted it twice in the past, and they have twice had to shut it down because they couldn’t keep up with the security needs, etc.
I get that. So what they can do is like you suggest: let people know they are willing to fund RTSP again, but since they will have to pay for the development and ongoing security/maintenance with their subscription income, they are going to limit it to those who have a subscription because those are the people funding the development and maintenance for it.
Yeah, it will make a lot of anti-subscription people really angry, but if Wyze doesn’t make money off their hardware anyway, then from a business perspective, they won’t really lose much by making those people angry, and it’s still possible for those people to get RTSP for free anyway through countless projects like Thingino (Firmware based) or Docker Wyze Bridge/Cryze (Docker Based using existing Wyze firmware.
Maybe a fair compromise will be to initially limit it to subscribers if it is being paid for with subscriber income. Then after they have effectively recouped their estimated costs, they can allow free user to have access to RTSP as well, with the rationale being to expand their brand overall and get more market exposure and positive press, which will bring in more users overall and a percentage of those new users will convert to their simplicity of the subscription vs the complexity of DIY stuff. Then it would make sense to extend it to everyone.
The above would be a reasonable way for them to work up to RTSP goals that everyone could ultimately be satisfied with in the long term. Start by funding it with Cam Plus subscription money and allow early access to it only for subscribers. Then later give free access to everyone once they feel like it has paid for itself. Then Free users would also get access to it eventually. Everyone wins in that case, vs the current way where nobody gets official RTSP without 3rd party work arounds which are less safe/secure/stable than an official method.
That’s my $0.02. I’m fine with anyone who disagrees. I can see good counter arguments about how competitors didn’t have to do it this way and they still offer RTSP included. That’s a fair argument, but I guarantee that if Wyze goes this way, they will just jack up Hardware prices a little to compensate and pay for it that way instead. This might be a preferred method for many though. I am not against that, I just think Wyze is less likely to agree to take that route and would instead continue in this stalemate that’s been ongoing for so long. I just want them to embrace RTSP, regardless of the method that makes sense. And like scott21 said, I know others wouldn’t ever pay a subscription for access to RTSP, but I would be happy to have it that way too since I already have the subscription.
That type of subscription funding makes solid sense. Sort of investing in a project.
I like this. I wouldn’t describe myself as “anti-subscription”, though I personally haven’t (yet) been a Wyze subscriber because I don’t think my current use justifies the cost, and the cameras (mostly[1]) do what I want them to do and expected them to do at the time of purchase. I vaguely recall seeing similar suggestions in other Wishlist topics, and I think developing and enabling these kinds of features as perquisites for subscribers makes sense if funding is a limiting factor. Clearly Wyze is capable of rolling out new subscription tiers, so RTSP could be a feature in some tier somewhere.
Yeah, I think this would probably need to happen at some point, given what their competition is doing.
Eh…you’re pretty agreeable, and I think this is a good idea.
I’m looking at you, “free” Person Detection on Cam v4! ↩︎
I also request RTSP stream support in Wyze camera firmware.
We know it can be done as, it was in a test version of v3 camera firmware.
So, please add RTSP into the main firmware branches.
It RTSP going to be available for Cam v4?
Nothing public has been stated about this. Wyze is apparently sure they’re going to start doing RTSP in some form but it’s unclear how extensive it will be. Will they only do it on certain new pro cams in the distant future? Will it be all future cams? Will they add back-compatibility for past models? Nobody knows. It’s possible that even Wyze doesn’t know.
Based on recent statements from co-founder Dave, I am feeling increasingly certain they will eventually launch an RTSP supported camera by end of 2026, but I’m not certain about much else.
Way to late, the boat left the dock
I’ve letting all my WYZE cameras die a natural death and replacing with quality products.
Adios !
I bought one to give it a try…
Because it does not support rtsp I will never buy another wise product ever again in my life!
I can’t stand when companies try to greedily make something that does not need to be proprietary proprietary just so they can make you pay extra money where other companies offer freemium service…
No wise is a poorly lead company with a terrible business model.
This has completely turned me off of their company all together!
It works like garbage on Linux through the browser does not display live only still frames.
Just a awful way to conduct business… I’m looking to return now!
Reolink has better options for roughly the same price!
Not currently, but they’ve officially posted announcements within recent months about making that a goal for this year:
This second topic is more recent and includes a link to a survey requesting specific feedback, including possible opportunities to be in a testing group for RTSP.
I have not found this to be the case when using Web View in a supported browser on Ubuntu and other distros. My understanding is that even without a subscription (Cam Plus, etc.) it’s possible to pick a single camera to stream in a browser through Web View. Event stills are standard in the app as well as Web View without a subscription.
