It's time for Wyze to support RTSP (full integration)!

It sure would be nice to see RTSP Again! I, along with many others would be updating and purchasing more WYZE cams, But because of no RTSP it has prevented me and many others from doing so… WYZE - Can you offer RTSP firmware for atleast one of the NEWER SERIES CAMERA?? It’s Guaranteed to boost sales… No Brainer? Whats the hold up? – Would like to hear a reply! Thanks!

There is definitely a monetary gain as MORE people would buy these cameras just for the RTSP!! -

Just purchased my second SV3C to replace my WYZE portfolio due to no RTSP support from WYZE and my other (2) WYZE cameras “PanCam” going offline daily. Not good Marketing decisions!

I get it. They are juggling resources, product development, engineering, etc. etc.

But what I don’t get is how they do not see this as a HUGE hole in the product line.
Right now they are doing well from what I can tell. They have a good reputation and continue to develop better and better products.

There are couple of things going on that might be why they have not released RTSP.

  1. Innovation
They feel the need is to continue to push ahead on new products and if not they could fall behind. It is possible they feel they could always go back and retrofit new firmware to solve this issue. But if the products are there they will loos their place in the market.

  2. Not Their Market
Its entirely possible as vocal as those of us who want RSTP has been. We might be a very small minority. So if they are selling everything they can make as fast as they can make it. And only 2 % of the users are demanding RTSP, then why bother?

  3. Impact on Cloud Services
Their long-term revenue might be based on Cam Plus services. If you experience as an entrepreneur or business person you realize a company that has subscription services is more valuable than one that sells a product. If their exit strategy is to build up the company and sell it. It is worth a lot more if they have 500,000 subscribers to their monthly service than it is to sell 500,000 cameras.

We use to refer to this as the Razor Blade model but now I guess it could be the cell phone model. Practically give away the razor or phone because the subscriber is worth more in the long run that the product.

I suggest that the only way this will change is if CEO Yun Zhang, CPO Dongsheng Song, CMO Dave Crosby, and Elana Fishman start receiving Fedex letters. Because honestly I doubt they don’t read this forum.

They already showed that they tried by having a working beta firmware with RTSP.

For reasons, that didn’t go well enough to work out well.

I have 16 camera which I purchased base on that will work on rtsp which i was wrong. Can still use orginal rtsp software.

The way Wyze makes money is through subscription, just like XBOX or PS5. They would be throwing away their subscription service if they add RTSP, as it diverts users from their servers. Sure, more users will buy them, but WYZE would only get a one-time payment rather than a monthly payment.

Some people the will pay for cam plu but they need additional option to record data for longer period time. Even 256 GB only last for a month.

You can use Wyze Cam V3 RTSP firmware. Look up YouTube video to flash the firmware on the camera

Easy, charge a low subscription price for RTSP. We get rtsp and it pays for the support they have to invest.

CamPlus and RTSP are NOT mutually exclusive. I can see lots of reasons to have CamPlus even with RTSP firmware - I have several that way now. The two provide very different functionality. I see having RTSP more of a replacement for having a local uSD card as opposed to RTSP being a replacement for CamPlus.

Many people will still subscribe even with RTSP as the two functions are complimentary. Subscription gives you a good mobile app and RTSP give long term video retention capability. Some won’t subscribe but they wouldn’t anyway - would just use the SD card. RTSP should be in the product. I have three of the floodlight cameras and want to expand with another 3 to 6 of those plus add 2 to 4 standalone cams but I’m going to delay a bit to see how this goes. I may look at other options. I’ve used cameras from a pretty well known home automation vender in the past and they seem to have some decent choices.

They should build the RTSP into cam plus as an add on feature on top of their cloud service. The main reason I would use it is to get it to work with HomeKit and because their search features suck. To improve it I would send the stream to a different software that allows me to store the video locally and scrub through it better.

I have a few friends I recommended Wyze Cams to, but turned to competitors because of the lack of RTSP.

I understand the implementation had issues, like sound cracking. It doesn’t have to be implemented perfect, if you just specify the limitations, and work on them over time, it’s perfectly acceptable.

Thanks for considering!!

I will not buy any more camera’s until they make them Onvif compliant ! I will not recommend wyze products to anyone ! what a shady company that tries to extort money out of people for something that should be free ! I have 2 words for you wyze !

@UserCustomerGwen any update from Wyze about bringing this back?
Many of us bought these cameras early on due to RTSP and there has been discussion of bringing it back but it’s been quiet on that front.

The RTSP firmware is still floating around out there for the v2 and 3. I use it on 7 cameras. I just added three cameras last week. Of course it hasn’t had any tech/security updates in some time.

Yep . Im aware. I’m hoping wyze revisits this and goes back to supporting it.

A big reason why they got so popular was word of mouth. I know a bunch of people who bought several cameras because of their excellent support and listening to their customers.

Sadly, that seems to have changed.

I wish Wyze would have stayed with supporting RTSP. Even charging a small subscription fee I’m sure would have been acceptable for the cost of supporting this feature. Sadly it seems they have abandoned it, and i also have abandoned Wyze cameras until they bring back support. I have started migrating to another manufacturer camera. RTSP could have complimented their Cam plus subscription as far as revenue goes. They will forever miss this untapped market and potential.

They are too corrupt to do the right thing ! I bought a few floodlights hoping I could add them to blue Iris because I heard that I could connect them. Instead I added camera’s right beside their floodlights ! I have 2 words for them about their subsciptions !
