Is Wyze getting out of the sprinkler business?

I know the Wyze Sprinkler Controller is discontinued. I know Sprinkler Plus free year is no longer being honored. Does Sprinkler Plus still work? Will it continue to work for years, assuming we pay for it?

I’m trying to figure out whether to buy a refurbished controller from the Wyze store to go with the three I have, or whether it’s time to abandon Wyze because they’ve abandoned us.

Any thoughts? Any known info?

I don’t believe this is true. I just looked up the public shipping records for Wyze and searched for it, and I see there was a new shipment for Wyze Sprinkler controllers as recently as August 2024. It seems to me that shipments from this particular supplier may only be for the Sprinkler Controllers, so it seems to be a very deliberate specific order for that product (not an aside to go with other other orders they are already making).

Now, don’t get me wrong, It looks like the last public shipment before that order was way back in July 2022 (though I don’t know how big that shipment was). And before that were 4 shipments in Jul 2021, 3 in April 2021, 3 in Jan 2021, and 3 in October 2020. Of course we have no idea how big any of those shipments were, but it does give us an idea of how much the ordering for the product has reduced over time. Likely there just isn’t a huge demand for them, so they do infrequent orders. It is interesting that they had their latest shipment for these within the last month though, and they’re already sold out…or maybe they just never added this new shipment to inventory, or they are exclusively putting them with a different fulfillment company other than their website. Regardless, it looks like they are not actually discontinued.

The only confirmation I can publicly see is that they plan to continue to support the sprinkler services in some way. Their public services comparison sheet shows they plan to include the Weather-Based Sprinkler Control services in the new service they haven’t officially launched yet, but have been teasing about since Spring time.

Whether or not the individual service will continue to be sold separately for new purchases is unknown, but Wyze has almost always allowed people to keep grandfathered plans in some form, so you’ll almost definitely be able to keep what already exists, at least until you cancel it (then you might not be able to get it back at the same rate as a separate service…but you never know).

Yes, I have it. I have the AI decide how much and when to water the different zones of my front lawn. Which is kind of funny because sometimes it means I have at least some part of my lawn watered every day because different zones are watered at different rates depending on the input (type of folliage/grass, type of soil, how much incline, how much sun, etc. So some are watered more often, some less often, and so even if it runs almost every day, it’s usually watering a different zone. I had almost 2 weeks straight with watering in September, but no zone was watered daily.

Basically, I don’t think they’ve abandoned these. They clearly ordered a new shipment last month, they built the service into their newly planned subscription whenever it launches. etc.

I’d say they’re relatively safe for now. But again, I don’t actually work for or speak for Wyze, I’m just a user who volunteers to help share what I do know.
