Is there a Wyze Forum T-Shirt available 👕

How about when Wyze breaks things? Are you saying someone else should fix whatever they break?

In some cases I know they have had a different dev (maybe a senior dev) find and fix something that was overlooked by the person who caused it. In that case, yes. They actually do this sometimes.

However, having programming experience, I can tell you that it is sometimes something anyone can resolve, because in a way it’s less about something being “broken” in the conventional sense. Code is flexible. A small error in code can cause unexpected behavior, but it can often be resolved with a minor adjustment, which often isn’t possible with some things that are truly “broken” or ruined. For example, if you use the wrong ingredient in a dessert, you may not be able to adjust it to ever make that piece of dessert taste good, but that’s not the case with code.

Also, the term bug came from being a literal bug (moth) that was causing malfunctions in computation, and anyone can remove that moth and it will work. Similarly, sometimes anyone can fix the computational glitches.

Programming is also an iterative process with a cycle that continually repeats.

It’s technically impossible to test any code 100% to be perfect. I elaborate on that here. Really interesting mathematics to explain why devs can’t test anything 100% thoroughly:

Summary:

So, mathematically there isn’t a professional dev alive that doesn’t have broken code.

It partially depends on the severity too. a minor bug can be a quick fix, but a major architectural clow could require significant rework and may not be suitable for the person who didn’t understand the advanced architecture in the first place.

Something might work perfectly on one computer/system/environment and fail in a different environment. Things are insanely complex and they can’t test every possible environment. It doesn’t always mean it’s broken [by the programmer] in that sense, but needs an additional iteration, but iterations always bring more complexity, so it’s a never ending cycle.

Basically, it’s really a complicated answer. Hence my qualifiers of “typically” and “generally” instead of always and absolutely.

All of your post will not fit on a t-shirt.

Never mind a t-shirt, all of his posts won’t fit in Encyclopedia Brittanica size volume

Your big book image are crushing my face.

Maybe next year, spend some time trying to cure cancer or something beneficial to mankind?:nerd_face::laughing:

Hmmm…this is very subjective. Still, there are some things I do which would be fairly universally agreed to be beneficial to mankind:

  • I am involved with a company whose main reason to exist is to be able to fund medical research on certain less common but very severe diseases/genetic-conditions that nobody will research at all because it’s hard to get sufficient funding for anyone to care about them (working on this happened over this summer for me).
  • I’ve also been directly involved with a certain NPO for over a decade related some critical humanitarian work, though I would rather not discuss the details on here.
  • Over the last decade I have helped several illiterate adults learn to read and write
  • Over the last decade I helped several dozen adults attain their GED and HS diplomas.
  • Does taking in a couple of rescue animals count?
  • I single-handedly tracked, & found some serial burglars and gave law enforcement everything they needed to get them off the street and get everyone’s stuff back to them (even though I wasn’t actually affected by them).
  • I think I’m a good dad…but I’m sure everyone tries to believe that and it’s very subjective about what makes a “good dad” but I think that can be pretty beneficial to mankind. Good Husband too. Brother, Son. I think I’m a good friend too. People need all those things.
  • I volunteer and help out random strangers on here/Discord/Reddit. Not sure how much that “benefits humanity” in the long term, but even small ripple effects can have positive momentum.

I don’t know that anyone needs to do something dramatic to be beneficial to humanity. Even something as simple as taking care to have good mental health and balance in your own life, have personal responsibility/accountability, compassion/empathy, etc may not be flashy things with obvious direct causes, but many of these things make a difference in society overall just by not adding to the negativity, let alone those who always try to leave things better than they found them. If enough people at least took care of themselves, it would make a huge difference toward mankind’s benefit. I can settle for that.

Reading books keeps me grounded and anchored and healthy.

You are a good man, Charlie Brown.

I mean that with sincerity.

I guess no one knows our background story. Can you tell I don’t read books for entertainment? I read to gain knowledge but I did not get the reading gene my Dad and sister have. Although all of us inherited Dad’s sarcasm gene.

Hey, the admiral often says he wants to eat me or smash me or run me over with his truck and I just frog I 'im and croak. Other guys say I’m loopy or Lulu or a few eggs short of a dozen and what do I do I make an omelet with what I have and serve lunch.

Carver should be the most maximal carver he can be and he does be. Anyone who does that is going to get a little pushback. What’s the beef?

That may depend upon which definition of “fresh” one uses, for example…

That could mean that the Navy Man is trying to get “fresh” with the :frog:! :astonished:
