Indicator in app and notification for SD card issues

The resolution on the SD Manage is in Gb + 2 decmil point. Wouldn’t the cam’s SD driver know the size down to the byte? The idea would be that the Free space changes after any Write. {{Equals (Value1, Value2)}} True/False
If both values are equal then the SD may be no good. I go sleep now. . .

indeed You are entirely correct there, that is a data integrity check, but I don’t know if our cameras have the ability to pull this off as I don’t know how much resource it would consume, but in going there, it seems like they would already have that capability even if it’s not utilized but I don’t know how often they do it. In my previous answer I stated Y as even after our format the card showed as full, this showed that even though the card was known to be empty the camera recognized it as full as it had not refreshed. Naturally the old adage of restarting it indeed fixed the issue but therein lies an issue as well. So it seems like if you format a card whatever memory cycle looks at that should also look at the data checks as well but I don’t know if it would or if it’s capable. This is where I lack the nurdery needed

All good discussions on SD cards.

I just think something is buggy with the hardware. I saw only one minimal issue where I had to reformat a micro sd, and that sd has been working since early 2019. I use a standard Sandisk and Samsung 32GB card without any other issues on all my v3 and v2 cams.

Again, I see it as luck of the draw of the cam you purchase. Why do some cams have SD card issues and I do not?

I could see long endurance maybe helping with continuous recording, since I only use event recording. I record numerous events in a day.

Another Wyze puzzle.

I was just thinking about this as a Wyze future enhancement. I’ve been caught finding out that my MicroSD card is dead or defective when I go to review past footage many times over the 5+ years of owning Wyze Cameras.

I think at the bare minimum, on the “Devices” screen, show a MicroSD card symbol for the cameras that the MicroSD card is actively recording. At least this would be a quick visual queue with minimal app programming.

Using the photo below as an example:

  • MicroSD Symbol w/Green Dot –> Activly Recording to MicroSD Card
  • MicroSD Symbol w/Red Dot –> MicroSD Card Error - Not Recording
  • No MicroSD Symbol –> No MicroSD Card Installed / Detected.

The app really should send a notification when the MicroSD card can no longer Read/Write at the minimum, and the MicroSD card has not been ejected. It would also be nice if the App had a way of running a quick Drive health test on the camera (like Windows CHKDSK or Linux FSCK) that could be scheduled and report back and log bad blocks, and report if there is an increase in bad blocks detected.

There’s a whole lot of discussion about this which digs a little bit too far.. for the most bit, it’s not needed to check if every single bit of the card is read or writable. This discussion mostly resonates around just getting a notification that the camera thinks the SD card was removed and no longer is ever attempting to write to the card anymore. Something that says ‘Hey, we can’t detect the card anymore!’ or the card might have been removed, or there’s an error. Or… ANY of these.. would fix so, SO much

The problem is the camera keeps pretending like there’s no issue on the card, until you need the footage, and find that it didn’t think there was a card in the camera for months on end…

A notification is great, but once the initial notification is gone (or got cleared on purpose or by accident or phone reboot, etc) you have no idea if it is recording. I love the idea of having the dot or some warning on the devices screen for any cameras.

The dot is an interesting idea. I could also imagine something like this:

  • green SD card ➜ microSD card is present and recording normally
  • red SD card ➜ microSD card is present but has an error (tapping could provide in-app troubleshooting tips like reformatting, checking the card in a PC, or using a different card)
  • grey SD card ➜ microSD card has been ejected or is not present

In general I’m in favor of Wyze making better use of color and color contrast throughout the app, as I’ve commented elsewhere.

So very true. Especially with all the Cam Pan v3 SD card issues we’ve experienced over the last year, it would have been nice to know they quit recording. Otherwise we must check each cam daily to confirm another SD card error hasn’t occurred. I’ve climbed enough ladders because of SD card issues, in addition to the pan bearing rusting/seizing, that my frustrations have reached a boiling point. If I can’t rely on the cam, and have a recording there when I need it, these probably aren’t the cams for our application.
