I just want my Pan V3 to somewhat reliably

When I first installed it a few months back, it mostly captured relevant events —people, pets, and animals - and I was so-so happy.

For the past couple weeks (probably coincides with the app upgrade) it is a huge fail on most everything going on 50’ in front of it. I will wake up to about 100 captures of insects flying around, but people walking on the street - nada.

I have the lastest firmware but would like some settings that get me back to way less bugs, and way more actual people, pets, animals.

I do very well with detection sensitivity at 40 - 50 and modest detection zone. 1 pan v3 directed at my driveway from beginning at street. I was getting overwhelmed with vehicle and person notifications until I made some adjustments, especially turning off vehicle. Maybe a range of 15 to 30 yards.

Android phone.

It wouldn’t be the app update, but possibly the firmware update that came out a while back. Do you have a Cam Plus subscription with the AI person detection etc features? It requires a good, stable internet connection for that to work right. If you don’t have cam plus, the bug detection will kick off the 5 minute “cool down” between events which may mean it misses people and other stuff.

Bugs are mostly an issue when the camera goes into night mode and turns on the IR lights. Has yours started doing that where it didn’t before? If you have enough ambient light, you can disable night mode. Others have installed IR lights away from the camera and disabled the ones in the camera to cut down on the bugs.

Thank you. I too get many car detections. I have my sensitivity at 50 and do not have a detection zone set, I can watch people, walking their dogs cross in front of my home and sometimes the cam picks them up, but most times not.

I have the Cam Plus subscription though, to be honest, I dont remember what it actually provides.

I turned off the I/R lights last night, and no more bugs - thank you. I have night vision set to auto but will turn it off tonight.

With cam plus you can set it to log an event only for people, pets, packages, cars, etc. That will help filter out the bugs. But it won’t stop the camera from tracking the bugs (if you have track motion enabled) and potentially missing other stuff.

If you’re getting sufficient color night vision without switching to night mode, that’s the way to go though. If not already you can try setting it to “dark” instead of “dusk” but I think that’s the default. If it works fine without it, just turn night mode off.

I realized that my front pan cam, I never need night mode, the street lights give it plenty of ambient light for color night vision. But I was leaving it set to auto in case of a power outage, as maybe people would come around taking advantage of the dark. But then I realized, all the street lights in front of my house are on the same transformer/segment/fuse as my house. And I don’t have that cam on a battery backup. So leaving it on “auto” was pointless and I shut it off, as occasionally it would flip to night mode when not needed, especially when the lens gets a bit dirty or hazy.
