So I now have camera limited pro, and I enabled descriptive alerts on all my cameras. However, I’m getting notifications for events I do not have selected in the camera settings. I get descriptive notifications if I’ve unchecked all events in the individual camera notification settings as well. I’m guessing this isn’t intended because of the description of the feature:
“This will replace your notifications with a detailed description of the event.”
So descriptive alerts are supposed to be event specific as well, correct? Not just triggered for any motion? Is there something perhaps I’m doing wrong?
Obviously I’ve restarted cameras, reset services, it’s occurring on four different types of cams, both iOS and Android. Notifications are working as and when expected when descriptive alerts are turned off.
This may not be an issue for you, but will you double check your notification settings for your cameras and make sure “Other Motion” isn’t checked now. I know when I tried out the pro service, as soon as I switched over it did check “other motion” even though I’d previously had it unchecked.
It’s possible unchecking that may not make a difference anyway though.
I will absolutely pass a link to your comment on to some employees though because I completely agree with you that the descriptive notifications should only happen when the conditions for the other AI detections also apply…so if you have it toggled to only notify you about a person, then the descriptive alerts should only pop up when a person is in the event, not any time there is any event. I am very strongly pushing for this, and your post here will help me be able to use you as a source to demonstrate what I am talking about.
I can’t get the descriptive notifications to work at all. I have given my consent and enabled the push notifications for both my cam pan 3 and my duo cam doorbell. Any suggestions?
I think I am having the same issue. I have other motion selected to record but not notify. Yet I still get a descriptive notification for other motion event.
It also doesn’t seem to obey the detection zone. For a year I have had my detection zone exclude the sidewalk and driveway, that has not changed but the descriptive alerts are telling me about every car that drives by in the exclusion zone.
The initial motion trigger should still respect the detection zone since that is handled locally on the camera, but I believe the descriptive alerts AI doesn’t respect the detection zone, so if a shadow inside the detection zone triggers motion, and there is a person or car outside the detection when that happened, the LLM AI will still tell you about the stuff outside the detection zone.
So motion triggers are handled on the camera, and then Descriptive Alert event analysis is handled by the LLM AI, and it doesn’t consider any detection zones like the Normal AI settings would do.
Yea a few layers here. For example I have two cameras that can see my front yard. The dual doorbell and a V4. I have the v4 set to trigger a record even when it sees a person but not notify me because the doorbell will notify me of the person (both will record it). Thats been working great. With descriptive AI I now get a notification from each camera about the person.
For the detection zone example in my driveway. I have it record all events and have the detection zone just cover my driveway. I am now getting a notification for every car that drives by and every time my neighbor pulls into their driveway down the street. I uploaded a few items below for another example. My notification preferences say record motion don’t notify. Yet it does send me a notification (a few actually) and it only has the motion tag, no person or vehicle probably because it’s outside the detection zone of my driveway. Got a notification anyway.
I understand what you are saying about the event triggers and camera then passing to the AI but it seems to be ignoring my notifications preferences.
Descriptive Alerts respect the Detection Zone. I have a driveway camera like @jswoboda1. Without Detection Zones, my cameras will tell me about every FedEx Truck that goes by.
You will notice below that my camera goes 3.5 hrs between events here.
As far as I know, you CAN NOT exclude people or cars or anything with Descriptive Alerts. The YouTube video they put out on the NBT Filter (make sure to have that turned on) talks about the level of scrutiny and tuning to put on AI alerts without removing something you want. Right now… it is low-level and will tell you about people every time they go by in the Detection Zone as far as I can tell.
Descriptive Alerts should NOT tell you about things outside the Detection Zone. I have tested this thoroughly.
And that’s how I would expect it to work and would be perfectly fine. I want all notifications within the zone. I also have the NBD filter enabled on all cameras. While I don’t have the real notification anymore here is an example of car in the street. Clearly outside the detection zone. I had to turn off the notifications for my driveway camera for now.
You may need to turn on Motion Tagging as other suggest. It will show you what is being detected. I’m wondering if that one square in your exclusion box is catching the shadow of cars as they go by.
Also, what is your sensitivity set to? Mine is at 50%. Maybe you need yours down to 40%. Then go walk out on your driveway to excluded areas and around the perimeter to see what it detects?
I’ll give that a try thanks, I forgot I had motion tagging off, didn’t like it ruining some of the videos but perfect for this. Sensitivity is at 50%. I’m confident I’m doing something wrong for some of it. Definitely a few things I wish we could chat about them. Wish they were active on discord or something, or maybe you have to be in the circle. Some other have very active discords
Here’s another example. It’s at night so obviously the lights shine in my driveway and trigger motion, no issue with that pixels changed. Previously this would trigger an event maybe but not a notification. This clip gave me a notification waking me and wife up for something outside the detection zone and several other times during the night (day is worse). I understand the process of what it’s doing but it can’t give me a notification every time a car drives by. I received more than 200 push notifications yesterday just from wyze. I’m a huge wyze user which is why I’m on this plan but we have to figure this out, I just don’t know how to get it touch with the team. I’ll test, submit events whatever it takes. The idea of this is amazing but even for a power user its starting to get to me (and my family). Either let me turn off all motion or my preferred is only give me a description when a smart evet type is. Anyone know how to reach out to a team to work on this?
You should check whether you have Descriptive Alerts turned on.
Whenever I have the NBD filter turned on… The check boxes on all the types of notifications are grey.
Because with Descriptive Alerts, you no longer curate anything based on people or cars or pets. Its just alerts. Those check boxes don’t matter on what it alerts on.
Click settings —> Wyze intelligence —> Descriptive Alerts. Make sure NBD notifications is selected.
Yep and that is the problem and have and can’t get out of. I have NBD on so it forces the types enabled and because it now tracks all motion I get a descriptive notification for some headlights or a shadow in my driveway, today wind shook e the camera and I got one lol. NBD filter will filter out some of the repeats but doesn’t get the chance when the car only drives by once. And then since it’s a new vehicle in frame it doesn’t meet the current parameters for an ignore (probably shouldn’t). My neighbor irs car is often in the driveway so a red car often get notified with a wind gust.
Taking advantage of the people and vehicle detections that are still there for WHEN to notify is something I wanted suggest. Have a few other ideas as well. I have wyze cams all over that are very active as I’m sure you do.
And please don’t read this as a complaint, I alpha and beta test for multiple groups and can’t get enough, I’m just used to have a more direct line via discord or something. And I love this community, time to response is crazy fast, we just can’t solve for every situation. This feature is something I’m super excited about and it potential which is why I’m paying the premium but it’s not worth a angry family if you know what I mean.
I’ve been discovering the same. At first I was seeing double notifications. If I turned off the individual smart notifications the descriptive notification still worked. It seems now that wyze may have fixed the double notifications.
My biggest issue is consistency. This seems like a moving target. I get it to work as expected then it doesn’t do what I predicted. I’m starting to think there may be differences depending on the camera.
Time permitting I’m going to turn off Descriptive Notifications on all but one of my 12 cameras and see if it becomes predictable.
@jswoboda1, I have not seen what you are seeing. In fact when I first started testing I threw my problem camera at it. We have 6 small palm trees in our front yard. With a small breeze they start moving about, and casting shadows all over the place. This caused all sorts of erroneous notifications that was mitigated by an extreme detection zone and dozens of responses back to wyze that the columns in our front yard were not packages.
I turned off the detection zone for testing and during the 10 hours I tested I only had one false positive.
I think there is hope for this feature but it has to become reliable and predictable.
Double notifications are still there if enabled :(. I have not turned off the detection zone but that does make sense if it’s not using it anyway. I also disabled it on few of my overlapping cameras. My front yard for example I don’t normally do many notifications anyway because the doorbell overlaps and it more important to me, but they came back with descriptive. I might have to give up on the driveway
94 notifications already today most are driveway. This top.one with the USPS truck didn’t stop it just drove down the street. Tools guys were across the street in the lot.
I brought the detection zone in a bit from yesterday as a test and lowered the sensitivity from 50 to 40. Same result though. Will continue!!
