How do I easily scroll through footage and watch *simultaneously* on my Wyze Cam Pan v3 a/SD card?

Hi,
I recently moved from 5 Nest cams to 8 Wyze cams and I’m having difficulty figuring out how to easily scroll through footage and watch simultaneously (i.e. not picking a time) on my Wyze Cam Pan v3s, Wyze Cam v4s, and Wyze Outdoor Cam v2 … all have SD cards and I have Cam Plus.
I record wildlife in my backyard and often the cameras won’t pick up the nocturnal animals in the events so what I use to do with Nest is simply scroll quickly through the historical footage to identify any brief changes in the video… this would let me know to go back and review more closely to identify what I saw. However, with Wyze, there’s a similar functionality when I go to my SD Card section, but it appears I have to know where to go… which defies the point.
Is there a workaround? Am I missing something/doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

For the V4 and the Pan V3, once you click the “SD Card” buttom on the live view screen, this menu will pop up if you have the microsd card recrding enabled.

Then scroll up and down to view past footage. The Teal line on the right denotes available footage on the SD card. Mine is solid because i have continuous selected. cloud based events show on this view just to the right of the shown times, but i don’t have cloud event enabled on this one so none are shown. This only works for one camera at a time.

The Wyze Cam Outdoor V2 is different, and doesnt have a playback menu like the above. If you have the scheduled recording enabled, you have to download the clips from the camera album before you can view them.

Thanks Tony @Omgitstony and I do already know about that function & also have continuous recording enabled as well… but what I can’t figure out is if it will allow me to see the footage while I’m scrolling… meaning at the same time. For instance, I don’t know if a western screech-owl came to the pond last night, much less the time it might have visited, but I do know 100% that if it did visit, the camera won’t pick it up as an Event. However, being that I know what I’m looking for, if I can view the footage while I’m scrolling, I’ll be able to identify the small difference in the footage… even when I’m scrolling through quickly. At which point, I’ll then go and view it at normal speed.
With Nest, this was a standard feature. Events are always missed with any camera you go with, that’s why the functionality I’m mentioning is so necessary.
How do you review what happened if you don’t know what time it happened? Maybe there’s a way to watch the SD card feed at 4x speed?? That would work as a workaround I suppose… but I can’t seem to find that option either.
The other possibility is that I’m misunderstanding how to do it entirely…
As for the Outdoor cam… well… that just sucks but it is what it is I suppose (it’s my mobile one anyway… I just use it for random things).

Anyway, let me know if my clarification changes your original response or not … if it doesn’t, then I may need more guidance LOL).

Thanks again,
KV

Looks like you want to “scrub” the footage. That is not possible in the SD card footage function. There is a wishlist which requests this feature. Here is the link to vote on and support!

Wow… that’s a REAL BUMMER. In reviewing, prior to purchasing, the SD card function seemed like it was the same. I mean, this is beyond a bummer… I’d say 90% of why I even have the cameras are for the ability to scrub footage (thanks for providing the correct terminology). OMG… I feel like I’m at such a loss now… talk about buyers remorse/switchers remorse. :frowning:

Well, thanks for the voting option. Appreciate it.

@Omgitstony Hey there :smiling_face:
After waking up this morning to find my birdbath pretty empty, it was clear to me that I had visitors last night. After reviewing footage, I did indeed have 4 separate visits from a pair of western screech-owls… non of which were captured as an Event… however there were numerous Events capturing dust particles flying around. I will say, I would have expected at least one portion of one of the visits to have captured as an Event because they were so clearly obvious??!!
I included a link of a 2 min clip (vs. the full 9 mins) where none of it was captured as an Event.

After taking a look at it, let me know if you think it’s odd that nothing was captured. I even checked all my detection settings and sensitivity settings just to make sure I didn’t accidentally set something wrong.

What is your motion sensitivity set to currently? It looks like the motion of the birdys having fun was mostly to small to be “detected” as motion. You can tell this by the green motion tagging boxes that only show when the birdys start flying or the particles get close or take up a large portion of the view. Do you have cam plus on this camera?

@Omgitstony
Thanks, and yes, I have Cam Plus and detection settings, both distance and sensitivity, set to 100 (per support guidance to ensure the highest levels of sensitivity)… I also do not have any detection zone set.

The owls both visited 2x again last night and it did trigger an Event for one. However, the motion detection indicated it was the shadow that created the trigger and not the actual owls. The only reason I had a shadow was because of the IR lights from one of my old Nest cams that I moved to a tripod and put it right in front of the birdbath so that I could ensure I could capture the visit (they’re regulars and this is their 3rd year nesting here & I track their behavior year-over-year… 4 babies currently that are just starting to get some feathers starting to come through all their downy fluff❤️).

(4 out of 6 hatching is a good result for western screech-owls… they usually only have a 50% hatching rate)

I just purchased Wyze Cam V4 to replace my Nest cameras because Nest so far is only 1080 but I love I how I can view Nest on my computer and phone app. It seems like the Wyze has some really good features but for me there is such a learning curve that I really don’t want to have to spend so much time figuring it out. The Nest is so easy on my computer or phone - I am a bit disappointed… When scrolling I am not using a SD card it’s all in the cloud online… I should add that I like using/looking on my computer vs phone - much bigger screen.

I also just moved from Nest and really missing the ability to scrub through old footage.

We have people that try and break into cars from time to time and the motion does not get captured. These people are fast so there’s a good change im not going to be able to find the neccesary footage just using the 30 second interval.

Someone mentioned that this was added to a wishlist? Can someone provide the link to these wishlists/feature requests? Thanks.

I think if you subscribe to Cam Plus you not only get like 2x 3x etc fast forward/rewind but you also get access to the web browser view of your cloud recordings and I’m guessing there is more control there too.

Being able to fast forward and rewind from SD seems like a no brainer, and yeah I was surprised it wasn’t there too. Though the transfer rate over 2.4ghz wifi (especially when most cams are pretty far from the router/access point) may be part of the reason for that.

If there is something specific you have to find, there is the option of putting the SD card in your computer, using one of the video stitching utilities to combine them to one big video, then use the video viewer of your choice to navigate the video. This of course is not for daily “I wonder if anything happened” use as it is pretty involved, but if you know something happened and need to find it, it can be less time consuming than trying to pinpoint using only the scroll bar or 30 second skips.

Obviously using detection zones to try and make it so only things of interest create an event can be incredibly useful in narrowing things down, but it isn’t always possible to do that, and sometimes a bug sets one off, then something happens in that 5 minutes that doesn’t trigger an event unless you have Cam Plus. The AI Detection with Cam Plus also can narrow things down a lot and minimize false alerts.

I’m not trying to shill for Cam Plus, I personally do not subscribe and just use the SD card, but if I was frequently looking for specific events on 24x7 recording, I’d consider it, it’s like $1.xx per month per cam if you pay yearly, or less if you have a lot of cams and get the unlimited, so not exactly breaking the bank.
