Gemini stops ability to unlock locks

Hi community,

With the rollout of gemini, I am no longer able to unlock my locks by Google shortcuts.

In my car with android auto before gemini, I could use a shortcut to unlock a specific lock. Google would ask for my pin, and upon verification, the lock would open. This was handy for when arriving home and being able to unlock the door just as I pull into the driveway.

Now gemini doesn’t support security features requiring a pin.

I am trying to use the location feature in the app to auto unlock but it’s very hit or miss.

Does anyone know of any other way to get integration into android auto for unlocking locks?

Is there any future plans for native Wyze android auto support?

Thank you,

Joe

A suboptimal workaround would be to do something like use a spare Wyze smart plug that doesn’t have anything connected to it. Then set up an automation rule in the Wyze app that when that plug is turned on, unlock the door lock. Then you can just tell Gemini to turn that plug on and off and it will unlock the door lock for you.

(I would also set the plug to automatically turn off again any time the lock is unlocked so it resets and is ready for the next time)

It’s not ideal, but it will work.

Hopefully they can update lock support for the new API

Any chance you can explain how to get to work?

I have the automation in my wyze app and it works, but nit sure how to get access to it in Google home /to ask gemini in the car.

Thank you

Did you link your Wyze account to Google Home already? Once you do, your devices will be linked to you, but you might have to go in and assign them to your “Home” and maybe a particular “room” in your home before Google will allow you to use them. At least I had issues with some devices until I assigned them to my home and a room in my home, then they seemed to work normally.

After that, you should just be able to say “Hey Google, Turn on [Name of Plug]” And it will open your garage.

Thanks for the insight and the tip about using a plug as a go-between.

I got it working with IFTTT. For some reason I couldn’t set it up natively with just wyze and Google.

That’s great! By nature, workarounds aren’t always clean, just functional. It’s even more satisfying when you figure out a patch on your own as long as it works.

Now if we could just get them to make it work more natively in the future.
