What is SightSafe and IoT?

Still not sure what SightSafe is but IoT stands for Internet of Things.

From a previous post

  • Security Update Wyze SightSafe: enhances security by embedding user-authenticated signatures at the media source, adding an additional layer of security to event videos and live stream.

Do you understand what it means?

NO

So you are as smart as I am

Notice that every app/firmware update has SightSafe component, even though it isn’t related to the fix itself? That looks like the main rationale for the update and not the fix itself.

I think Wyze can comfortably enter and hold the Guiness World Record for the most app and firmware updates.

I think I understand some of the purposes of this.

Siightsafe is embedding user-authenticated digital signatures directly into the footage at the moment of capture. The purpose of this is that it makes it possible to verify the integrity and authenticity of video recordings and live streams from a Wyze camera as being genuine recordings (not faked by AI or altered by someone in some way). Every video will be cryptographically signed and verifiable whether any part of the video was altered or tampered with. If there is any unauthorized modification, the signature will no longer match and the change will be flagged.

This can also be useful for legal purposes to prove the video footage of an even or a person is indeed genuine. That is part of the point of a security camera after all. If the video footage can’t be used as reliable evidence, it is almost worthless. In this case, Wyze cameras now all have a way to prove their video footage is real/genuine and not faked or modified by AI or Photoshop since the cryptographic signature can’t be faked. Any alteration or tampering of the video will cause the signature to not match. For example, there’s a fad on TikTok of people making fake ghost videos with their Wyze cams. I presume some of those will be easily shown as fakes now. The main question to me is how can WE verify a video. Can I run a Video through the sight safe website or something to verify something someone else sent is geniune? What good does it do me if only Wyze can tell something is genuine? I want to know if something is genuine too.

Apparently this will work with the Cloud events and SD card recordings and live stream. So because of this potential, I assume Wyze is also going to use this as an extra security verification to verify that live streams and cloud events are only allowed to be seen by an authenticated user. This will make it harder for hackers to view your event videos or livestream by adding another layer of authentication tied to the user account credentials. If a hacker doesn’t have/know this digital signature as well, they won’t be able to access the events or livestream. Just another proactive added layer of protection to enhance data security and user trust all without requiring user configuration.

So it seems it’s just a security update to ensure authenticity, an added layer of a digital signature for part of authentication, and reducing potential vulnerabilities.

I don’t think it really matters to 99% of users. It’s just part of their promise to continue adding more security protections and improvements to reduce recurrence of past issues. It’s good to see they’re still working on adding more protections.

At least, when I first heard about Sightsafe and looked into it more, this is how I understand Sightsafe. Maybe we should ask about it more in an AMA though. I’ll do that.

#AMA2ASK

What’s in it for Wyze? How does it contribute to its bottom line? I’d rather it spend its time and money on improving the products’ reliability. That’s a surefire way to drive sales and revenue, instead of addressing some user concern that, frankly, I haven’t seen cited in the forum or elsewhere.

That seems like it’s about all we users can do for the time being, because Wyze hasn’t really told us anything about what it is, just that it’s part of the recent firmware updates they’ve been pushing, and I think that’s what’s contributing to the questions and frustration, because it seems like more incomplete communication from Wyze. Even the Virtual Assistant in the Help Center doesn’t know what it is, which is a shame, because if this is some whiz-bang new feature that’s supposed to benefit users in some way, then they should be messaging and promoting the :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: out of it: “Hey, friends! This is a great new thing we’ve developed that’s going to give you added protection, and you don’t even have to do anything to enable or manage it. Here’s what it is and how it works….”

Thank you! I hope you get solid and meaningful answers. :+1:

Maybe they thought it was a good idea after the past issue of some users seeing other users camera ,

Yeah, I have been wondering if this is partially in response to that, but after thinking about it, I’m not sure how much a “Digital Signature” affects Caching which was the issue when that happened.

Here is where I have an issue. You, went out of your way to explain what SightSafe is to me, a simpleton but Wyze has been shoving this invisible feature in our faces without explaining to us what it is and what it does.

If Wyze keeps on bragging about this new security feature, they should at least have the balls to come and tell us what it is.

Maybe they don’t know themselves and they are just blowing smoke in our face? Who knows?

To me, this sounds like those people who throw complicated phrases that no one knows what they mean just to think that they will impress someone.

It is funny that with v3 firmware 4.36.14.3289 released, I am being offered 4.36.14.2953 from April 3, 2025 as of today.

Are either one of these v3 firmware versions working well for anyone?

Makes me feel uneasy when firmware is released so close together, I am thinking I will wait a bit before updating.

I’ve been using .2953 since the middle of April without issue. I have no updates available for my V3 cams and just got the update for my V3 Pro from 1 month ago.

Do you have SD cards in the v3 cameras with firmware .2953? If so, are SD cards also working well on .2953?

Yes I have 128GB Samsung Pro Endurance cards in all 6 of my V3 cams and they all work. I have cam unlimited and that also still works. One of the V3 cams
