Fall Daylight Saving Time Bug

My Wyze Cam v3 seems to have lost the repeated hour between 1am and 2am right after the clock shift occurred at 2am, November 5th, 2023 (daylight saving time 1-hour clock shift backward).

So… if there was no “falling back” an hour, the event I’m trying to review would have taken place at 2:15am, However, since at 2am we fall-back an hour, that means the 1am hour gets repeated a second time and little short videos of the event do indeed get displayed as having started at the second 1:15am, but I want to see the full uninterrupted video, and that’s where there is a problem.

When playing back on the timeline, it actually shows 2 sets of 1-2 am entries… which would mean the Wyze Cam v3 timeline is aware that there should be two recordings, However, when it plays back, it is actually playing the same hour twice.

So, instead of seeing the second 1-2am hour, I can only see the first one. When played back starting at 1:59am, you can see the jump from nothing happening to all of a sudden the event had already taken place where it picks up at 2am. With no playback footage in between.

The camera is mounted outdoors under a roof, so I’m dreading having to go up a ladder to get the SSD to see what’s on it.

Anyone else notice this lost time anomaly?

So I’ve got a similar issue, but slightly different. I also see the two 1-2AM entries in the timeline, but only the ‘2nd’ entry has the onscreen clock match the time listed on the timeline - but it’s playing video from the pre-DST 1-2AM, I also have a hard cut in my video from 1:59:59 to 2:00:00 where I missed some movement I’d like to see in that missing hour. Interestingly, when I go back as far as I can in my recording history (multiple days), all the times are off by an hour, right up until the 2nd 1-2AM entry from today, and then the times are accurate again. But yes, I’m missing that recorded hour.

I don’t think both of my 1-2AM hour segments are the same/repeated as you’ve stated.

Explaining it a bit better, after the DST change, EVERYTHING historical up to 1:00AM on Nov 5th is being played back one hour behind - I’m seeing the clock in the video showing 00:35AM at 01:35AM on my timeline (in the first 1-2AM segment). After the first 1-2AM segment is over, the timeline moves into the next 1-2AM segment and the clocks are correct (01:35AM in the video now lines up with 01:35AM in the timeline), but right at 1:59:59, it does a hard cut to 2:00, as the recording has obviously lost an hour and only picked up at the NEXT 2:00AM an hour after the time change. Does that make sense?

Seems like an app programming bug - adding in the extra 1-2AM segment in the timeline makes sense to accommodate the DST change, but they’ve not synced the video to the timeline properly and the app can’t access the video for that missing hour - if it was done right, all times in the past would be accurate, not off by an hour as it is now. Frustrating.

Yes, I’m seeing the same. I verified this for Cam v3, Cam v3 Pro and Cam Pan v3. All have events between 01:00.00-01:59.59. I can view the cloud events via the app’s Event tab, but can’t view any SD footage between 01:00.00-01:59.59 because the app is erroneously showing the same hour twice, thus missing an hour. I pulled the SD card on a few cams and verified that the missing footage was written properly and displays off-cam.

Happens every year. 1:19 AM is 00:19 AM

Issue is that we can’t view SD footage via app from 01:00.00-01:59.59 DST.

That’s normal. What is not normal is that for that 1-hour period, you are not really viewing the footage you think you are.

I set my clocks back an hour early yesterday. I normally start feeding at sundown, but forgot about the time and was an hour late. All my critters were confused, waiting outside for an hour for food-man to show up. :pensive:

Same thing. Happens every year. The cameras don’t handle the time change well.

UPDATE: The SD Card had the full recordings for both 1-2am segments and I was able to retrieve the needed footage onto my computer. Thanks for all the responses and the commiseration! Wyze, please fix this issue!

Pull the SD Card from the Cam and read it on a microSD reader in a computer or phone. Cam SD Video is recorded in individual one minute MP4 Video files and saved to the “Record” Folder then indexed by date folder and hour folder.

Yes, remove the SD card and insert it into your computer. Open the recordings folder, go to the dated folder for 11/05/2023, and then go to the 01 folder which represents the 1am hour.

You will see two sets of files for every minute, Those labeled with the minute such as “02.mp4”, plus, an additional file “02_new.mp4”. That “new” file is the one for the 2nd round of files between 1am and 1:59am.

There will be 2 files for every minute. Those with “_new” in the file name are for the 1 o’clock hour after the Daylight Saving Time change went into effect at 2am, those without are for the first instance of the 1 o’clock hour before the DST change.

Make sense?

Thanks for researching that one and posting your results!

What are the odds… I had an intruder at 1:25am walking through the open construction on the front of my house. It’s been super perplexing trying to figure out where my camera footage went… no video of the intruder or the police showing up in response. Figured it was a bug with DST handling… Wyze please fix!!! Good to know I can grab the footage off the memory stick I’ll have to attempt that now. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the replies… I just wanted to double triple measure on this… as I don’t want the SD cards fubar’d.

I sort of figured it was this way, but not sure the exact formating of the files etc… so thats good to know if, errr, more when I might have to do a deeper dive on video than just pulling from events… right now the “Wally Cam” (thats my racoon groupies) I just pull the footage out via recording it…

Again, thanks for the FYI’s so I know where this stands!

IF you want to talk about a BUG that definitely needs addressed, I’d say this one is right up there!

This is info that bad actors could use to select the 2 times to a year to utilize it… I know high odds, but trust me there are people who will! Trust me… thats all I can say…

Anyone remember if there was any Spring Forward weirdness? Just planning ahead for March 2024.
