Eufy Cameras

Wait, you would use one injector to support multiple cameras? How? Splicing the cable out and disregarding the wired Ethernet function?

Edit: you must be talking after it splits to USB cable…

In my case I’d like to run Cat5 to each camera location so I could switch to wired Ethernet cameras later.

Each injector has a splitter so you can plug another cable run into it. Total distance has to stay within spec though.

No, but for actual Ethernet use that has to run back to a real switch port. To be able to convert to wired Ethernet later I would need one injector per camera, with cable runs to each. That, or a PoE switch instead. No?

Yep a switch would be required for data and power. Splitters work fine when all you are concerned about is power.

There are sale codes already on these cameras

Hey $33 for the stationary version, even better.

The stand/mount is weirdly large and thin though.

I find it strange having such a deep discussion about a competing product on the Wyze website, but if they’re OK with it then, awesome!

I enabled Homekit support, just to test it on my Indoor EufyCam and I have to ask - why would you keep it enabled? I saw the warnings, that it turns off A.I, detection window, pet detection, etc. so I knew this was going to happen. The only thing that works is general motion detection, so why would anyone want to keep this running over just using the default app and the microSD card or nas recording option(s)? I’m not asking facetiously (so forgive me if it sounds this way), I generally can easily think outside of the box but I’m stumped here. I’m asking because I genuinely want to know. Is it because it’s the cheapest Homekit compatible camera that one can purchase or because of the security using HSV vs. Anker’s setup or, what?

I read the notes saying “per Apple’s guidelines, so and so have been disabled”, but then I looked up other Homekit compatible cameras and found Eve and this camera states that it has person/pet/etc detection enabled. The makers state that it’s made from the ground up to work with Homekit, I’m assuming this is why, but it’s a bit odd. Could the A.I of the Eufy Cam possibly be enabled in Homekit at some point or is there going to be A.I/person detection using the whatever Apple Hub we choose? I didn’t go as far as to enable HSV on the camera I tested, so I don’t know.

I purchased the Eufy camera(s) for the wider f.o.v/resolution and the A.I. The only thing it has over my little Wyze cam is the resolution at this point because the A.I misses people, lol…which is kind of ironic. I thought hardware A.I would be more spot on than software, but I guess not. I’ve had the 2 cameras running side by side since I set them up and on several occasions the Wyze has caught people when the EufyCam missed them. These were not quick, excusable misses either, these were package deliveries where the carrier walked into my Porch area, put down a package, took a picture and left.

Anyhow, I feel that it’d be a waste using one and disabling all the features, just to use Homekit. Or is the allure of security higher than the necessity of the person detection features? I bought a few EufyCams though so with a bit more enlightenment, I may end up using one or two with Homekit. I don’t technically need the person detection enabled on all of my Indoor facing cameras.

In iOS 14, now in beta, all the AI functionality shifts to HomeKit. In the beta right now the Eufy cameras in HomeKit have person and pet and vehicle detection plus face recognition.

Plus the videos stay in your, encrypted, iCloud storage not on Eufy’s servers. Not to mention the cameras can participate in HomeKit automations.

The experience you seemed to be describing is the iOS 13 experience. If not then you need to talk with Eufy as something is very wrong.

That’s amazing. You’re right, I’m not running any betas. My testing was based on enabling homekit integration from my phone right now which is/was running 13.6.

This is great news. I can’t wait until everything comes out of beta. I’ll try again at that point. With all of the detection features, Homekit certainly does sound more the way to go now. Thanks for the info.

Received my first Eufy pan yesterday. Very impressed. I have just ordered the non pan today. They are at discount price at Amazon Canada. I’m satisfied with my 9 v2s and 3 pans but after playing a bit with the Eufy pan, I prefer Eufy.

Will I change my Wyze for Eufy, the future will tell.

I would definitely be looking at something like a Eufy battery cam for outdoors, but the V2 works very well letting me know when our dog wants in or out at the patio door.

I used to feel the same. My issues with the Wyze cameras are my own and not necessarily the same as anyone else. In my case the camera would be fine for days, notifications would work, live view etc.

Then for no reason I could discern notifications would stop working, or live view would get stuck at step 2 of 3, or the SD recordings would have gaps, or be sped up (dropped frames) or just freeze or be missing entirely.

Power cycling or force closing the app or removing and reinserting the SD card would usually fix it, until the next time.

In short the cameras are just not terribly dependable or reliable. So for just a very few dollars more or even for the same price, other brands are proving much more reliable. REO, Eufy, and now I am looking at EZ-Viz among others.

Just ordered the non pan version. I will install it next to my v2 behind my window which overlooks my main entrance. Notifications will be instant. I’ll see if I will include it in Apple Homekit.

Now I will try to hold back from buying more. I hope Wyze will improve their application by copying some features from Eufy. The playback fonction in Eufy is ahead of Wyze’s.

What do you mean copying?
Wyze needs to fix what they have firs. Their focus now is selling cloud services. not products or features.

The playback in Eufy is better than Wyze. You can adjust the speed(up to 16X), your events are in orange and the countinuous recording in blue. My cams (wyze) are settled for 24 hours recording. When I check it, the events are not marked. We have to past in events tab. I can make a video to show you the Eufy playback. It will be easier to compare.

With Wyze, I have many applications shut down after watching 10-15 events. I have to reopen the application. No shut down with Eufy.

For the notifications and recognition speed , 1 sec (4 with a picture) vs 30 with Wyze. I know the process is done directly by the cam without having to go to the cloud system like Wyze. I don’t know if Wyze could improve it.

No cloud is needed with Eufy. No 5 minutes cooldown. The events are recorded as long as they lasts and with notifications.

Fixing things doesn’t mean not improving them. If one does, it doesn’t have to be that hard to do it. If you spend your time fixing or pulling out gadgets, you are not innovating. Meanwhile, the competition is getting ahead.

Thank you for talking about these Eufy cams during the pre-launch. It was during this period, which lasted 3 months, that my cameras were malfunctioning due to an update. Everything is working fine now but it’s good to know a good alternative to Wyze if the same problems arise again. In french, we have a proverb: "A scalded cat fears cold water. " Un chat échaudé craint l’eau froide. I don’t know if there is a meaning in English👍

There are always alternatives. I think what it boils down to is if the product you have meets your needs. If the answer is yes then stick with it. If no, well at least there are alternatives.

Wyze seems to eventually get it right. That to me is part of their strength. And also why I put the cameras I own, mostly, into a drawer not the trash.

There are products that I just don’t think are ever going to be “good” at the price point Wyze operates at. The band is a great example of that. But we will see.
