I think your specification (“camera that can see 20 feet to the right”) is about more than just “view width”, because every camera should be able to see that width at sufficient distance. Have you looked at the Doorbell Comparison Chart? You may want to consult that and consider a few things:
- At what distance from the camera do you need 20′ of horizontal coverage?
- At what angle and height do you intend to mount a video doorbell?
- Do you have access to 3D printing facilities?
If you know the distance at which you need your specified width, then you should be able to do some calculations based on a given camera’s field of view (FOV) in order to get an idea of whether or not that camera would provide the coverage you desire. At that point, I think the challenge is mostly just getting the video doorbell mounted at the proper height and angle for the view you want, and that’s where the 3D-printing community can be helpful in compensating for Wyze’s limited mount angles.
FWIW, I started with Video Doorbell v2 and then modified a 3D model to fabricate a mount with the downward angle I wanted and was generally pleased with that result. I’ve also tried Battery Video Doorbell, which has a pronounced fisheye as a result of its wider FOV, so maybe that’s what you’d want to consider for the width you’re trying to capture. I noticed that you tagged your topic for Video Doorbell Pro, and—according to the comparison chart linked above—that model (which I believe may be no longer sold) has the same FOV as Battery Video Doorbell.
