Digitized picture

Hi everyone, I love this camera so far. It’s been a pretty clear picture until it wasn’t. Today I woke up and it seems digitized. I’m assuming it’s the WiFi connection but wondered if someone could let me know if possibly something else causing. Firmware is all up to date.

Thank you
Paula

Here is a beautiful sunrise with it looking great.

By digitized, do you mean the horizon looks curved?

When my cameras act weird I pull the power cords on my cameras and WiFi router for 1 minute to see if things clear up.

Beautiful view you have there.

I had to watch the videos to see maybe what Paula is talking about. In the first video there is far more motion (leaves and water surface). The more motion that is happening, the more difficult it is for the compression to deal with. That’s the only thing I am seeing different.

Probably referring to the area of the clouds with a “wrinkled paper” look. It’s probably due to lossy compression.

I think you’re seeing compression artifacts, certain angles of light and lots of motion will cause that, it is how they keep the cameras using low bandwidth, by heavily compressing the video, but there are certain situations where you’ll see that sort of thing.

But check and make sure the camera is showing 2K resolution in the app, it may have dropped down due to a wifi congestion or even just accidentally tapping that area.

Thank you. I appreciate your answer. The sky looks choppy.
Thank you again.

Hi thank you for your reply Dave.
The compression makes total sense. Too much movement. So I guess it will be like this until the wind stops. I’m hoping it will be good for Aurora shots. I do have it in 2.5 res.

Thank you for your reply. That makes sense. So it will clear up once the wind stops I hope.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I can’t help that with the wind and motion. Darn it.
I’m using this camera for Aurora. So hopefully it will be okay. Spot light off and night vision off.

I am thinking it will do okay for the Northern Lights. Here is a meteor my regular v3 captured last year.

I don’t think so. I get the same effect even when there’s no wind. The only way I know to reduce this is for Wyze to compress less.

Judging by your clips, would that be Aurora Australis?

Beautiful view I might add, bit of jealous too😊

Wow, Steven that is cool! You captured a big fireball lol

Crap, well this is the first time it has happened and it’s windy and the clouds, trees and lake are moving. How do I compress less?

That’s likely a function of the camera firmware.

Oh okay, thank you so much for your reply.

It is a combination of things. If it has been clearer before it is not just “how the camera is”. The angle the light is hitting it at (or even the type of light, filtered through clouds) can throw off the compression. When you mix that with other factors like lots of motion it can get worse. I have 1080P and 2.5K wyze cams and they are usually very clear, there are just certain times the compression is much more noticeable.

Wifi signal can interfere too but if you’re watching the live view and it says it is 2.5K or whatever the max on that cam is, and the motion is smooth and not choppy, that shouldn’t be the problem. It will reduce the resolution if it can’t get enough bandwidth.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your reply. That makes total sense. It has been really clear as you can see my earlier post. All day today since it’s been windy it’s been acting weird. I wonder if we change the angle of camera a little it may help. I’m trying to set up for Aurora at night.

Here is my latest video from tonight. 2.5K.

Compression is one of those things that is very hard to predict or explain. The first clear video you posted with clouds in the sky, the clouds may have actually helped. I think it is that big section of fairly constant color with no objects in it (the clear sky in your latest vids) that may be making it hard for it to adjust/“figure out”. Tilting it down would probably help but then you’d potentially miss some of the aurora.

Of course dark is when it has the most trouble, especially when there are quick changes to lighting, so there may not be any way to avoid it, but I’d still think they’d be visible, cameras seem to be really good at picking them up even when the naked eye can’t.

I hate to say it but this may be an instance where a GoPro or something similar might be a better fit, then just review the video in the PC later. Of course that’s an extra expense so depends on whether it is worth it or not. I will say having one around does tend to come in handy for various other things too though.

I think it is what it is. I’ll have to deal with the compression issues for day time viewing on the lake but I did get it for Aurora and it was the best “low light camera option” per Vincent Ledvina The Aurora guy. So hopefully, fingers crossed it will give me some Aurora views. I’ll post back if I do get some shots but the weather is terrible here raining and it was cloudy last night when Aurora was out. I’ve been SOL. LOL

Thank you again for your feedback, I appreciate you and everyone else!
