I think the v4 might be a bit better than the v3 pro from some of the comparisons I’ve seen. Maybe that guy did his review before the v4 came out. But I have not personally used the v3 pro, nor have I tried to record the sky with my v4 so can’t say for sure. All I can say is the v4 has far less compression artifacts at night than the regular v3 (worst), OG, and Panv3, at least in my usage scenario. The v4 is actually cheaper than the v3 Pro too (quite a bit when on sale) because it does not include the built in person detection.

But hopefully the weather clears up and you’ll be able to see how the v3 pro does.

Okay wow, interesting. I think I chose the a V3 pro because his comment was:” have heard the V4 is worse than the V3 due to some software changes muddying up the night footage.” So that’s why I went with the V3 pro.
Now Vincent does refer to V3 and V4, not V3 Pro so that could be a difference too. I don’t need the person detection. So maybe I will try the V4 and just unplug and plug the new one in. I’m assuming it takes the same connection cord? I think I paid under $50 for the V3 Pro

Here is our set up.

We buried the cord in conduit. Hopefully it will work through out our Cheboygan, MI winters. lol.

Thank you again
Paula

Same connector. I got my v4 on sale for like $17.50 around xmas but they regularly go to $25 or even $20.

For me the night quality of the v4 is far better than the v3 as far as compression artifacts. I think the v4 may not be quite as vibrant colors due to the higher resolution sensor than the v3, but I got rid of my v3 quite a while ago so I can’t directly compare them. I just do remember fairly severe blocking and ghosting especially at night, much worse than my OG that was side by side with it, and the v4 is better than the OG.

V3 Pro has a 5V 2A power adapter, it will also work with the V4 which comes with the 5 V 1 A adapter. I have all my V4 cams on the 5V 2A adapters.

Guess that onboard AI takes some extra juice. Or they just had extras.

The tally I know of to date
v3 - 1A adapter I think (can’t recall if you bought the optional spotlight if it came with a larger one, maybe the 1.5A from the OG stack kit?)
OG - 1A
v4 - 1A
2xOG (stack kit) - 1.5A
Panv3 - 2A
v3 pro - 2A

That’s great and I just bought the V4.

I just bought the V4. My current outdoor power cord will work for the V4 too. I purchased off Amazon.

Thank you
Paula

Yup, will work fine. 25 feet is pushing it for USB but if it is working fine with the v3Pro it will work fine for the v4 which draws less current. Since you’re not using the IR LEDs and I’m guessing probably no use for the spotlight, speaker, etc it should probably be ok.

If you notice issues with SD cards corrupting over time or needing formatting frequently - or wifi signal dropouts, the cable would be a suspect, but others have reported using cables of similar length and only having issues when using the items above.

Hi Dave,
Okay good to know thank you.

I put up the V4 and there is still some compression issues when windy and lots of movement. Great crisp picture though when calm. There’s a full moon so I haven’t seen the picture at night with full darkness. I had vertical lines on the V3 pro. So I’m hoping will be better with V4. When I installed the camera the live kept dropping every 30sec or so. I found out the app had an update and it’s been better.

The Aurora Guy Vincent gave me the link for Aurora Ridge Camera to get an idea how the Wyze cams look. I contacted them via messenger and they said they use both V3 and V4 for their cameras and the V4 by far is more crisp and colorful. So I thought the V4 would better for my night shots. Again I can’t stand those vertical lines when it’s fully dark. Hopefully it will be better but I’ll have to wait a bit to find out.

I will keep some SD cards on hand. I appreciate all your expertise.
Thank you
Paula
Sunrise with V4

I have not aimed my v4 at the sky, and the area it records has ambient light from streetlights, but haven’t ever noticed any lines in it, but I guess you’ll find out how it looks tonight. They will all have compression artifacts, just some have it better or worse, and I found the v4 to be the best of the ones I’ve tried, hopefully for your use case it will be too.

That sunrise picture is really crisp and clear. I believe your neighbor may also have some sort of hovercraft.

I think that’s pontoon, looks like it’s hovering over the water due to the water being so calm. I think you already knew that, no harm in correcting you

I look forward to finding out how it is in darkness.

Thank you it takes great photos/ Timelapse’s.

It’s a Tritoon and it has Sealegs so you don’t have to have a lift. Best invention ever lol.

It’s a Tritoon and has sea legs.
But I like the term hovercraft.

Cool, is it yours?

No, not ours but we ride on theirs now and then. It’s very relaxing. The sea legs are great. You don’t have to deal with a lift taking it in and out of the season. So even though it’s a bigger cost for the sea legs it’s awesome to have it if you’re in shallower water.

Ah, I was assuming it was an optical illusion but that makes sense. A friend of mine has a lift with solar panels and battery, but that’s for a standard speedboat, just slowly float onto it, hook on the front, and push a button on a key fob. Though it did flood once and I had to redo all the electronics in it, and he’s always having to fiddle with the hydraulics.

Yeah I saw the pontoons but even then I was thinking it was some sort of optical illusion. Jacks makes more sense.

Made me think of the pictures you see like these floating around (pun intended) from time to time.

Check these out, they come with a price tag to match

We’ve never had a hydraulic lift but I can only imagine the up keep with them.
I didn’t even think about it looking like it was floating in air. lol

Ha that’s something out of the movie Back To The Future.:open_mouth:
