Create a Hiden Camera scan/finder

I have noticed that when i have one wyze camara pointing at the direction of another camara with infrared in darn mode, i can see that camera shining light very brightly. That led me to think, It would be very handy, if Wyze was to make a device that can use the camera lenses / night vision, to scan rooms to see if there are any hidden infrared cameras? I know there are already device that can do this, but what about one to integrate with the phone.

Wyze Battery Cam Pro can do what you described. Depending on your phone model, there are also apps and phone lens attachments the do the same for less $$$.

In addition to the battery cameras SeaPup mentioned, almost any of the cameras with a USB battery bank can be used for the purpose.
However note that almost all hidden cameras are NOT going to have IR illuminators because it would make them FAR to easy to detect, and for hidden cameras they usually can’t afford the space of having IR illuminators exposed (think camera shooting through a 1/8 inch or smaller pinhole).

Welcome to the Forum, @candradef!

Can’t most smart phones already do a lot of this without additional apps or gadgets?

Clearly this approach wouldn’t work in a scenario like @K6CCC suggested where IR illumination isn’t being used, but I can see outdoor cameras using IR-illuminated “night vision” in my neighborhood at night just using my phone. Even my regular Wyze Cam v4 and Video Doorbell v2 can see the IR illumination from the camera mounted above the neighbor’s garage door across the street.

As others have stated, that’s easy to defeat; just don’t use the IR light. And, too, why would Wyze attempt to depress its market for cameras?

There are many purported hidden camera finders out there that use various technologies. None of them are perfect as each type of camera has different things you need to try and scan for. Using your phone’s camera can usually pick up an infrared light shining if the hidden camera uses an IR light. Shining a flashlight in the faces of things that might contain a camera can expose a lens but you have to be slow and methodical. RF scanners can find ones that use wifi, but they don’t all use wifi. Unfortunately there isn’t one “sure shot” hidden camera detector and if you really wanted to truly scan a room it would require multiple things and a decent amount of time.
