Chime controller does not fit inside chime box

Maybe I’m missing something, but there doesn’t seem to be room in the chime “box” when the chime controller is installed. I wired the controller to the chime and tried using the supplied tape/sticker to mount the controller to both the side and front of the chime. Regardless of where I place the controller, the cover plate for the chime won’t fit back on. There doesn’t seem to be enough space under that cover plate.

When I look at other chimes from Home Depot, they all look to be about the same size. This is in a 6 year old house. Am I just missing something obvious? I’ve noticed in the images and videos online, I never seem someone replace the cover. It seems like this would be a common problem with a bunch of people adding the controller.

Welcome to the Forum, @jpc8112!

Maybe your particular chime box just doesn’t have any room to spare? It’s difficult to tell without photos (and I understand that you have some posting limits as a new Forum member), but in my own limited experience the Chime Controller that comes with the Wyze doorbell and the Power Kit that comes with an Arlo doorbell are both small enough to fit within the box (with the cover on) for a mechanical chime once everything is installed.

If I had to guess, I’d say that probably you’re not missing anything and maybe you’re describing a design trend with newer doorbells…but that’s just a guess. If you wanted to post some photos of what you’re working with, that might help other Forum members chime in (pun intended) with some ideas to make this work for you.
