Change Browser?

V4: Wyze app doesn’t like the Browser “Brave.”

I have other browsers on my phone: Firefox, Dogpile, Startpage, & Edge.

How do I get the app to try a different browser?

The app does not use a browser - as I recall except when logging in. Is that what you’re talking about?

Welcome to the forum @TheDude2. I suspect you are talking about the WYZE web portal.

One would think that landing page, posted above, would list the supported browsers. As I have come to learn, WYZE does not do things that makes sense. With that said, I asked their AI support agent about supported browsers. Please know that there are users in other forum threads that claim Firefox works for them. However, as you can see, WYZE states that particular browser is not supported. Why they call out that specific browser is somewhat interesting. As far as using the Brave browser is concerned, there is no chance that is going to work. Many organizations HATE the use of that browser as it blocks their “secret” data collection abilities (among other things).

I access Wyze app on my cell phone.

Then log in the app

The app appears to go to the web Browser Brave.

A yellow box with verbiage “there is a potential browser compatibility problem

This means, get the Wyze App to use a different browser.

How do I tell the Wyze app to change from Brave to Firefox?

Note, I am accessing this forum from my PC.

Based on your screen shots, you are not using the “WYZE app” on your mobile device (aka cell phone). It looks like you are instead going to a WYZE website, which is opening in the Brave browser. The reason the website is opening in the Brave browser is due to the fact that you have selected the Brave browser as your default web browser on your mobile device. In other words, any website you visit on your mobile device will automatically be opened within the Brave browser.

Follow these instructions to install and use the official WYZE app.

Side note: Assuming you are using a relatively current Android device, here is how you can change your default web browser:

  • Open settings (the gear icon when you swipe down from upper right hand corner)
  • Scroll down to find ‘Apps’ and tap on it
  • In Apps, at the top you will see ‘Choose default apps’, tap on it
  • In Default apps you will see ‘Browser app’, tap on it
  • Make your desired selection, this becomes your ‘default’ browser on your mobile device

Best of luck!

I am using the Wyze app that installed on my cell phone.
The Wyze app is goes to the Brave web browser.

There is a reason I have Brave as my default web browser.

Regardless of which web browser I have preselected as my default. I should have the option within the Wyze app to pick any browser that is installed on my phone.

Makes no sense to change my default web browser just for one Application.
Makes more sense to have the Wyze app to be able to select a web browser the app prefers.

If the app is unable to select from available browsers, then we need to contact the developers how to improve their user interface.

Wyze should ask the end user, to connect, which browser do you want to use? Then provide a list.
This way if a browser is not functional, the user can quickly try another browser.

Recap:
• Honestly, I am not changing my default browser just to use one particular app.
• Wyze needs to improve the user interface and add the option within their app to pick available web browser.

I think @K6CCC was correct in his reply. The first time you go to logon via the WYZE app, it opens a browser window to complete the initial login. Once you are logged in, you will remain logged in unless you log out.

Just like opening a URL from your email application (or any other application installed on your phone), the app will use the default web browser to open the webpage/site. This is normal behavior and simply how things work. If you wish to contact WYZE that is your call. I wish you the best of luck in that regard.

My advice, change your default browser, login via the WYZE app, then change your default browser back. If you do not want to do so, then I guess you may not be logging into the app on your phone until you convince WYZE to change how their login routine functions.

Kind Regards,

Welcome to the Forum, @TheDude2!

Have you read this Help Center article? I notice it’s been a couple of years since that’s been updated, but I think this is where your problem lies, as I think you’re hitting a roadblock when trying to authenticate with the Wyze app.

My understanding of what the Wyze app does when logging in is that hitting the “Get Started” button on the login screen when launching the app for the first time will open your mobile device’s default Web browser. You then complete the authentication there (e-mail address, password, 2FA code), and then the browser is supposed to pass a token back to the app to finish the login and allow you to see the app’s Home screen. If your browser can’t pass the token back to the app because it’s not allowed to open links in another application, then this hand-off is failing. That’s why I think you have essentially two options at this point:

  1. Allow Brave (or whatever default browser you might choose) to open links in external apps by changing the settings of your default browser.
  2. Temporarily set your default browser at the Android OS level to one of the others you mentioned. (My default is usually Firefox or Firefox Focus, and I’ve had good results with those. Microsoft Edge and Samsung Internet have been reported to have this same kind of issue where external apps must be allowed within the browser’s settings for Wyze app login to complete.) Then change your default back to Brave after you’ve been able to fully authenticate to the Wyze app. As long as you don’t blow away the Wyze app data or log out of the Wyze app, you should remain logged in indefinitely and not be required to change your default browser again.

Option #2 is the solution to your original question:

That has to be done within Android’s settings. Option #1 may be useful as an alternative (again, consult the Help Center article) if you don’t want to change your device’s default browser even temporarily.
