I eventually got it to work. I used sd card formatter application on my sons windows pc. I selected the full format option. Not the quick format option and then copied the file over and managed to flash 4 of my v3 cameras.
I’m so done with the WYZE brand. I’m so sorry I wasted my hard earned money on the brand. I’m balls deep in with 6 cameras (one just packed up) doorbell pro and WYZE sense. I’m going to sell all of my devices and move to ezviz or tapo. I’m tired of battling and hoping that they will listen to their customers who beg them for home assistant support and Rtsp I’ve wasted so much time researching different options to get WYZE cams working for me on HA etc. so I decided this weekend to rather research a better option and cut my losses.
. For example Ezviz has native Rtsp support, home assistant integration, a windows app, an OS X app. Yes it costs a bit more but you don’t have to continuously battle. Goodbye WYZE
Mcallstar,
Based on the price point and features, there isn’t anything I’d be replacing my Wyze cams with. I understand they don’t want the liability of having the cameras RTSP enable, as it could backfire in their reputation. But when comes to their pro-active attitude in the past, when some of their database may have leaked in the past, they pro-actively sent out email to all accounts informing the problem, not waiting for the issue to be broadcasted by other outlets. I feel like to certain extend they do provide a great product for the money.
I’d not rely my information with brands that are as cheap as, but do not give me enough sense of data privacy concerns.
I’m trying a different SD card and doing a full format to see if I can get it to work.
Thank you for the tip.
Everyone keeps saying that for the price point and features you cannot beat them. That is not actually true. There is lots of competition out there that offers more than WYZE and if you add in the CAM+ subscriptions then it actually gets more expensive.
You are right McAlistar. I don’t want the “features” that they offer for extra cost. I want my camera to be secure, So why would I want to connect to wyze server and risk hacking?
If you want to use web interface you have to pay WYZE. Their excuse it that they have to pay for Amazon servers. Why don’t they understand, that for security reasons I don’t want my data to go through any servers. I don’t need to connect to Wyze server either. Why can’t I use local IP to connect to the camera - as I used to do 20 years ago with FOSCAM cameras?
I had Beta RTSP firmware installed (it didn’t work very well though). I was stupid and I have installed firmware version 4.36.9.139, and now I can’t get back to RTSP firmware. I can’t install it. So the camera is useless to me now.
I had this exact same problem last night. After reading these posts, I realized that I had purchased a 128Gb SD card instead of the 32Gb that I already had in my existing Wyze Cam which is already configured for RTSP. So, I moved that 32Gb card to my new WyzeCam and the FW downgrade worked the first time. I now have the 128Gb card in the original WyzeCam and it functions fine for recordings. I guess the problem is if you try to load FW with anything above a 32Gb card.
Correct.
