Cameras unable to connect after iOS 18 Release

Making this change in Settings and granting the wyze app local network access does not remedy the issue.

Correction: It does work but required a full reboot of the iphone and not just force closing the app.

Thanks Dave

That baby can go to 64MB but those modules are hard to find and very expensive now, vs back in 2008

Reset DNS on phone

Well, iPhone 16 is coming out, so iPhone 14 and older are probably going to be obsolete soon. I haven’t updated to iOS 18 yet, but will cross fingers.

The issue with not updating the OS is that at some point most apps will not update. Just saying. I too have a laptop that I can’t update due to an app I use that can’t run on 64 bit OS.

As for the new “security” feature of iOS 18 it seems kind of a joke that you can access your cameras from an outside network but have to give the app permission to your local network?

Why does everyone suggest turning on access local network. If the cameras were working before IOS 18, then they had access to local network. Either the developers need to find out what Apple did in IOS 18 or contact Apple to fix the issue.

No.

I’d love to see how the world looks through your glasses.

They added a new security feature to block access to the local network until you grant that permission. Nothing Wyze can do about that. If you have an issue with it, complain to Apple.

Welcome to the Forum, @fmosley.tx!

I’m not sure why you addressed me directly, but I think Forum regulars are making this suggestion because it seems to be the working solution for a lot of iOS 18 users (of which I am not one). It’s apparently such a widespread problem that even Wyze added a note on the Help Center home page several days ago:

:information_source: 9/18/2024: Error code 22005 on iOS 18
If you’re getting Error Code 22005 when trying to view a camera’s Live stream, go to your device Settings > Wyze App and toggle on Local Network access…

Yes, the cameras had access to the local network and still do, but the change introduced by iOS apparently affects the Wyze app access to the LAN unless a user changes the setting as described.

I really don’t see this as an either/or situation, because there are more than two approaches to the problem, and this certainly isn’t the first time a third-party integration has failed because of things Apple has apparently done. As far as I know, users of Google Home on iOS devices still can’t view camera live streams in the Google Home app because of issues that the Google Home team have failed to resolve with Apple. I believe Wyze has fairly limited response options when a platform provider decides to introduce significant change at the OS level.

There is an update to fix this issue go to General and software update. It’s still IOS 18

I have numerous equipment on my WiFi I had to reboot everything after ios18 including my phone

Updated my iPhone and iPad to iOS 18 last night. No problems accessing my Wyze devices. App version 3.1.6 (1). Tested local WiFi and T-Mobile LTE without any problems.

Kinda makes you wonder if you are actually talking locally to the cams while on wifi or if it is going via the internet - there’s various things that can cause it to “loop out”. Either that or you already had granted Wyze local access.

That’s a good point. I am still on iOS 17.6.1 and it has Local Network toggle in Wyze settings. I’m wondering if folks who are having issues had it disabled in iOS 17.

I believe it needs to be on to set up the cameras. Mine has been turned on since i got my first WYZE cam in 2020.? I’m using iOS 17.7 now without issue.

Maybe they disabled it after they set the cameras up :man_shrugging:

Or an update disabled it, or they reset their phone, or uninstalled/reinstalled the app, or the 3.0 app upgrade doesn’t carry that setting over… Any of those could potentially toggle it back off.

Or the ghost of Steve Jobs decided “you do not need local access”.

Probably no point in figuring out “why” just as long as people know to go check it… Maybe there will be a free U2 album in your music to make up for it :stuck_out_tongue:

I have the same issue. iOS 17.7 I was not having the issue, updated to iOS 18 and cams hang at Step 3 of 3 Authenticating. Although my iPad is different device, it has iOS 17.7, no issue. I was wondering what the common factor was with this and it makes sense with regard to iOS update. Instead of QA trying to downplay the issue with casual troubleshooting steps maybe they might take the user-base more seriously when a number of customers report the same thing.

Are you referring to Apple? The solution is posted all over this forum, you just need to change a setting related to a new IOS feature Apple introduced. This goes for any app that needs local network access.

Having a QA testing background, I did prior to posting my message. So I did some tests.

My camera system

Tested on my first network, AT&T

Logged into the Wyze online app via Windows 11 Pro - same issue

I connected via iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 18, iPad Air 2024 with iOS 18, and iPad (circa purchase 2017) with iOS 17.7 (where the issue does also now occur)

Step 2 of 3: Authenticating

See the message to try a different network which leads to my next test

Tested on my second network T-Mobile Home Internet

Logged into the Wyze online app via Windows 11 Pro and an Intel MacBook Pro both on the MacOS as well as in Parallel’s Windows 10 Pro - same issue

I connected via iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 18, iPad Air 2024 with iOS 18, and iPad (circa purchase 2017) with iOS 17.7

Step 2 of 3: Authenticating

=====================================

Next test, I repeated everything above after connecting to my better halfs camera system from my networks. Web login, test on AT&T network, test on T-Mobile Home Internet - same issue.

======================================

Here’s a final. I drove to my better halfs place to test from there, she is experiencing the same thing on her cam system which now is sort of making me think there is a different issue all together.

I logged into my account via the Wyze website online app on her iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 17.7 and her silicon based MacBook - same thing.

I connected to her network with my iPhone and same thing occurs.

I strongly feel that the above trumps any notion that I cant read the thread prior to posting. Something could be going on with either the Wyze client or the last cam firmware. I tested and someone on their team can reach out if they need something further.

I am quite happy to help prove that it is NOT their problem.
