Camera goes off every 5 minutes due to flag

I keep getting notifications every 5 minutes because my Wyze lightbulb camera is picking up my flag on my front porch every time there is a gust of wind and I don’t want a boy who cried wolf situation. I have played with the detection zone and the motion sensitivity with no improvement. I’m not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum, @GarrettH!

First of all, are you using a subscription (Cam Plus or better) with your Bulb Cam? I’m not saying that you should, but that’s a piece of the puzzle and there are benefits to subscribing. Knowing the answer to that question helps to guide potential solutions. If you are, then sharing some details of your settings under Event Recording might be helpful.

For troubleshooting generic motion detections and the use of a Detection Zone, it can be helpful if you could do a few things:

  1. Enable Motion Tagging on the Detection Settings screen. This is the feature that draws a green box around whatever triggered an event. Even if you don’t intend to use this long term, being able to see the green boxes can help with diagnosing and setting Detection Zones.
  2. Upload a screenshot of your Detection Zone setting/screen.
  3. Upload a screenshot or image of an event still with that Detection Zone enabled and the green Motion Tagging box showing.

With 2 & 3, community members can provide some input about potential overlap and/or suggestions for tweaking the Detection Zone. As a new Forum member (Trust Level 0), you’ll be limited to 1 image upload per post, but if you choose to poke around for a few minutes or search to read a few other topics of interest, then you’ll quickly advance to TL1 and be able to include more images and even videos in your posts.

Flags, swaying trees/shrubs, and reflected car headlights are all problematic with the generic pixel-change-based motion detection that comes without subscription use, and tweaking the settings to find the balance of stuff you want to be notified about and stuff you don’t care about can be a tricky trial-and-error process.

I should also note that my driveway Bulb Cam occasionally wobbles a little (it can get very windy here), and that shift in the camera itself can cause it to register a motion detection event and then tell me about the vehicles parked in the neighbor’s driveway across the street. I say that to say that even using a subscription doesn’t completely alleviate unwanted/unneeded notifications.
