I just want to know why you bricked SD Card functionality, Wyze, and aren’tbeing honest about it. I loved my Wyze cameras and bought 2 more in December 2025. Within weeks and after firmware updates, SD Card playback functionality stopped working on both the new cameras, and my old ones. All I get is “No video a available at this time”.
If you want to force everyone to subscription services, be honest about it. Saying functionality exists when it is not supported is fraudulent. I’m not going to be coerced into subscription services.
Wyze’s support is a joke. I’ve wasted hours going in circles with their useless responses, provided every MAC address they asked for, reset and reformatted multiple times, and followed every instruction to the letter. Nothing works. These cameras are bricked.
I have 15 devices and have spent serious money on this ecosystem specifically to maintain local storage privacy on SD cards. Wyze has failed on every level: broken hardware, broken support, and zero accountability.
I want a refund, replacement units, or a software update that restores the advertised functionality. Selling products that do not perform as advertised and then stonewalling customers is fraud. This is unacceptable.
I’ve never had a subscription yet my SD cards have functioned flawlessly for 2.5 years, on that model cam and several others.
What evidence or proof do you have that Wyze has intentionally disabled it on your cams in order to force you into a subscription? Without any such evidence, you’re just making up and spreading rumors and false information.
On my v4 only, not my other models. I cant just click to watch the video. If I go to event recording it only allows thumbnail unless you have a subscription.
Then I have to change my view to timeline, then click sd card and look at that only thumbnails.
Once in a bluemoon I do do get video to show up but 95% of the time it is only thumbnails.
This changed significantly after the last app upgrade. I do have one camera on subscription but even thst one is faulty.
So, yes, I do believe when they changed the app, made it more difficult, they essentially bricked the cameras.
I am glad that yours are working flawlessly without a subscription but from what I have read online and talking to support my experience is more common.
When you tap the event to bring up the still picture, there are two places to play the video.
The play button directly below the image is to play the cloud recording. If you don’t have that cam on a subscription, it will just bring up a screen asking you to subscribe. if you do have a subscription, it will play the cloud video, not the SD card one.
At the bottom left is an “SD Card” button, that will play the event video from the SD card.
If tapping the SD card icon brings up that no video is available or there is an error, I would try pulling the SD card and doing a full overwrite format with the formatter from sdcard.org, there may be an issue with the card. If it is a minor issue like file system corruption or a couple bad spots, the formatter will fix it. If it is a major issue like the card is failing, the formatter should toss an error and you’ll know that you need to replace the card.
Keep in mind standard SD cards (non endurance) will wear out much quicker when set to continuous recording (not sure if you’re set to that or not). They also typically won’t stand up to some of the more extreme temperatures.
Nothing has been changed in the app to try and force a subscription nor has Wyze changed any policy regarding this. In fact they’re going the opposite direction by adding RTSP to the cams so you can stream to your own home server, and this feature does not require a subscription.
The same way I always have. Select SD card under the camera feed within the Wyze app. I have continuous recording set for one camera and event recording set for another. Both have recently increased written storage incrementally, but I’ll have to pop it out and see if anything ever actually recorded. Also, the free version used ro show me a few seconds before and after an event. Now it’s just a freeze frame with absolutely no indication of what triggered the event. In essence, these cameras are 95% useless now.
Evidence or proof? How about the fact that the functionality for my cameras simultaneously changed? How about the fact that I used to be able to view event feeds within the app of a few seconds before and after an event, not just a thumbnail? How about the fact, following app update, viewing recordings on the high-quality SD cards in my cameras, one fairly new, no longer work drspite no changes to app navigation? How about the many other customers experiencing the exact same issues (check Reddit and other sources too). Get out of here with your useless post.
Yes, this is how it shouldwork and had always worked, but no longer works. We arent stupid and we aren’t liars. But apparently, we’re suckers for accepting app upgrades.
I have tried both ways. I used to just be able to go to the events list, and if I eant to see more video, select the SD card. I’ve tried the timeline as well.
That is not evidence or proof of a Wyze conspiracy, especially when others are not experiencing the same thing.
As long as you’re trying to view it on the SD card, that functionality has not changed.
Many people doing something wrong or having unrelated issues with connectivity or SD card quality again does not point to wyze doing anything. The fact that there are far more people without the issue again confirms that.
You’re here asking for help, I provided you feedback on your issue. If you are just here to complain and vent, go back to Reddit, it is far better suited for it. If you want help resolving your problem, best to drop the attitude, provide more details, and see if anyone is still willing to help you.
