My fear with that is the bait (whether poison or PB in traps, etc) could actually attract them into the garage. The poison bait takes hours to work so they could do plenty of damage in the meantime, and then get back out and snatched up by an owl and kill that too. Whether that line of thinking is correct or not, I don’t know, just don’t want to risk attracting them in. I suppose nothing is certain when it comes to these little bastards.
Peppermint oil spray works very well, you just have to remember to reapply it frequently. Bags or cups of Peppermint Altoids work too, seems to last a bit longer than the spray but they lose their scent in the air relatively quickly too.
Maybe a home brew electrocution mat surrounding the car. Just gotta remember to shut it off before walking/driving across it
