Gruesome.
I have been at war with squirrels since I was about 10,
My parents bought me an Eldon wood burning set, which was really just a soldering iron with different tips, Was on the back porch burning wood, and a squirrel was chattering away in the back yard, I unplugged the soldering iron, and threw it at the squirrel, piercing in in the side, The soldering iron had an electric cord which must have acted as a rudder or stabilizer. The target was about 20 feet away. People who know me will tell you I canât hit the side of a barn. Pure luck I guess.
Jeez! I didnât think youâd have a topper!!
Grow a skin (is that the saying???). Nothing dies of old age in the wild!
My skin is fine. Itâs just an accurate description. Remember the scene from Fargo where one of the two hapless kidnapper schnooks shoots himself in the jaw with a pistol then has to play through it for the rest of the film?
Gruesome.
âYoung John initially shrunk from the sight but then he gruesome.â
4 sleepy chicks
Finally put their cloths on.
They have been flapping their wings a lot lately. Wish the camera was set up better but it was put up in haste. I have the dang KardashIan bluebird house they donât like and need to figure out what the difference is.
Maybe the donât like the wood the new house is made from?
Both are made of cedar. I havenât set them side by side for comparison yet.
Lots of flapping going on
Airing out the house or tuning up their engines. The poor guy on the bottom right is saying go outside.
All the chicks have fledged.
The first egg was laid July 2
The last chick flew out August 4
About 34 days from concept to production.
Empty Nester-
I guess all that wing flapping got them all tuned up and ready to launch.
I need to leave the birdhouse alone for a day or two until mom and dad make sure all their babies have flown out. Imagine coming home to check if your babies are ok and the whole house is gone.
It is a bit late for another brood
You will have to put the old house up earlier next year or figure out why they donât like the new house. I didnât know birds were so real-estate fussy.
Dad bluebird goes around checking for possible nesting sites. Then he shows mom bluebird what he has found and she chooses which one. So either dad didnât like the new birdhouse or mom didnât. Had a lot of tire kickers but the open house was a bust.
I took the old birdhouse down and after cleaning the nest, I will put it next to the new birdhouse and compare.
Had a bluebird checking out the house.
He is just scoping out the different nesting possibilities for next spring and will take the Mrs. around to show her what he found. Then she picks one and makes the nest.
This looks like a juvenile.
Care to identify these avian miscreants?
The handsome Grey one with a Mohawk is a Tufted titmouse (theyâre one of my favorites).
I think the brown one is a chipping sparrow, but it is really hard to tell. It might be a female purple finch, too. So, either a Finch or a sparrow based on the coloring, tail, and beak. I donât think itâs a pine siskin, but itâs close.
