There have been mentions in various threads recently about the “Automatic Update” option, and I’ve been checking my Cameras for the last week, looking for this option, but until last night, it has not been available on any of my devices.
But last night, after updating my 10 V3 cameras to 4.36.11.7095, I checked again, and noticed that this “Automatic Update” option now shows up, but it only shows up for the V3 cameras, and for the Outdoor Plugs.
But this option is not available for any other devices. I have checked my V2 cams, V2 Pan Cams, V3 Pan Cams, and OG Cams, indoor plugs 2021, indoor plugs 2022, Wyze Hub, White Bulbs and Color Bulbs, and this option is not available for any of these other Wyze devices.
Is this an app, or a device firmware feature, and is this being being rolled out for other device types?
(I am on Android app version 2.46.0 (368), which is the latest version available, and every device is on the latest firmware version as indicated on the Firmware Release Notes page as of today)
It’s available for Cam v3, Cam v3 Pro, Cam Outdoor v1 and Cam Outdoor v2. Some of those types may currently be beta features only. We haven’t heard any word from Wyze on the future scope of device applicability. It looks like the feature requires a combination of firmware, app and server support.
It seems that Wyze has been rolling out Security Updates. With those updates this is the first time I have seen that they have been Enabling Automatic Firmware updates. Device Settings/ Device Info/ Firmware Version/ Automatic Update On/ Off. If you have been with Wyze over the years they have a History of Breaking the Cameras with new firmware updates. You don’t want to be on the Leading Edge with these updates. This is the first time I have seen wyze use this Tactic. It may be because of the Security Issues they have encountered lately & they want to force the Security Updates on all users. I personally don’t appreciate Wyze doing this. If they break my camera will they replace it. I dont think so! I would check this setting after any firmware update to your cameras. You have to check every individual camera. If it’s on on one Camera and you turn it off, that is only for that camera. You must go to each camera Individually and turn it off. I hope you don’t have 50 cameras. Just my opinion on this issue. Thank You
They most definitely won’t if the device is out of warranty. If it’s still covered by warranty they might offer a gift card. One of the reasons I’m always skeptical of new firmware.
Do you happen to know/ have you seen anything about the cam og automatically updating? The new beta firmware released yesterday was already installed when I went to manually do it. I will keep a more watchful eye moving forward but I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else.
Okay thank you! Just to make sure I understand; the cam og does perform automatic firmware updates and there is no way to currently disable it in the app, is that correct?
It doesn’t auto-update on it’s own. Left un-updated, it will continue to capture events and generate notifications, but when you attempt to live stream, it will ask you to update and there is no option to decline. That may be due to Wyze requiring a security update. I hope an auto-update on/off toggle is in the works for OG cams.

My experience is different, and when I go to live view for my OG cams, the update is not mandatory, and has a decline option just like a normal update.
I am on Android, version 2.46.0 (368), my OG cams are currently on 1.0.67, and the update is 1.0.71 . Maybe it is mandatory on iOS?
